Job description

About the project

Neurons Lab is an FSI-focused AI consultancy delivering agentic AI for banks, insurers, and asset/wealth managers across EU, UK, and APAC.

The EU AI Act is now partially in force: Article 50 transparency obligations (AI disclosure, machine-readable content marking) apply since August 2026, while high-risk obligations were deferred by the Digital Omnibus to December 2027 — creating a readiness-programme window for our clients rather than a panic-compliance one.

First assignment — international bank, EMEA division (London, October 2026).

A 6-session (1–1.5h each) in-person training programme for the bank's AI Governance Committee: cross-functional, non-technical reviewers (data privacy, legal, HR, cybersecurity, AI product, infosec) who assess AI use‑case risk.

Curriculum: AI fundamentals → regulatory risks (EU AI Act, GDPR, Art 50 transparency) → cybersecurity risks → bias/fairness and performance → risk identification and controls, with hands‑on exercises using the client's own risk assessment forms.

The programme also includes redesigning their risk assessment workflow into simplified, team‑specific forms. Delivery follows a specialist‑coaches model: you anchor the regulatory/governance and controls modules, paired with a technical trainer for fundamentals and security sessions.

Beyond the first assignment, the role operates across both Neurons Lab revenue motions: governance trainer inside AI Adoption Programs (executive workshops for boards and C‑level at FSI firms), and compliance advisor to engineering delivery on high‑risk use cases in our pipeline — credit scoring, underwriting, claims (Annex III categories). You will also help standardize our AI Act handover pack (self‑assessment + system card, first produced for a German credit bureau client) into a default billable deliverable.

This is a Talent Network engagement, not a full‑time position. You work as a freelance contractor at ~0.2–0.4 FTE per project, with possible gaps between projects, and you're free to hold other commitments alongside Neurons Lab.

Objective

Deliver the first client governance training programme to a 90%+ satisfaction standard, then make AI governance a productized capability: standard workshop module in every AI Adoption Program, standard documentation pack on every AI build, and credible regulatory positioning that helps close high‑risk FSI engineering deals.

KPI
  • CSI ≥ 90% on client sessions and subsequent governance workshops

  • Client risk‑assessment workflow redesign accepted (simplified team‑specific forms in use)

  • AI Act documentation pack delivered as standard on 100% of in‑scope AI builds

  • Retrospective Art 50 review completed across active/recent client systems, with ≥ 2 resulting expansion conversations opened

Areas of Responsibility
  • Deliver executive AI governance sessions (in‑person London for the first assignment; 2–4h formats elsewhere) — AI Act obligations and timeline, UK divergence, sector‑specific FSI requirements, Article 4 AI literacy duty

  • Design and facilitate hands‑on risk‑identification exercises using the client's own risk assessment artifacts; redesign review workflows and forms where in scope

  • Determine per‑project role classification (provider vs. deployer vs. contractor/integrator) and risk categorization; define the resulting engineering requirements (disclosure, marking, logging, human oversight) with delivery teams

  • Standardize and own the reusable governance asset library (self‑assessment, system card, information annex); support Legal on contract template updates

  • Track regulatory developments (implementing acts, harmonized standards, EBA/EIOPA/FCA guidance) and support pre‑sales on governance‑led opportunities

Skills
  • Expert command of the EU AI Act including Digital Omnibus changes; working knowledge of GDPR, DORA, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, and UK regulator positions

  • Ability to translate legal obligations into concrete review criteria, documentation, and engineering requirements for LLM/agentic systems

  • Executive‑grade facilitation — credible in front of a bank's governance committee and board; able to bridge terminology between model risk management and modern AI teams

  • Fluent client‑facing English; additional EU languages a plus

Knowledge
  • FSI domain depth: model risk management in banking/insurance, and how credit scoring, underwriting, and claims map to Annex III high‑risk categories

  • How modern AI systems are built (LLMs, RAG, agents, guardrails, cloud deployment) — enough to hold credible working sessions; deep technical security demos are covered by a paired technical trainer

  • Awareness of non‑EU regimes (UK principles‑based approach, APAC frameworks) for our international delivery footprint

Experience
  • 5+ years in AI/tech governance, model risk, or regulatory compliance — within or for financial institutions

  • Track record of designing and delivering executive training or advisory (not just conference talks)

  • Experience working alongside legal teams on AI/tech regulation; legal qualification not required

  • Independent contractor / consulting experience; comfortable with senior positioning in front of clients
