Job summary

Conrad Labs is seeking a Software Engineer II to own features end-to-end, influence architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers. You will deliver high-quality, scalable software and collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers both locally and remotely.

Qualifications

• Requires 3–5 years of software engineering experience in a product-based environment.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Proficiency in full-stack development with backend APIs and database design (SQL/NoSQL).
• Experience with scalable distributed systems and cloud technologies (AWS).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience writing automated tests with emphasis on quality and performance.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver features from design through implementation, testing, deployment and support.
• Contribute to architecture and guide system design for scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers (local and remote) to deliver value to users.
• Mentor junior engineers, review code, and raise engineering bar across the team.

Conrad Labs is a software technology company with teams in Lahore and Karachi. We build production software across client delivery, MVP and venture studio projects, and internal products.

We are building an engineering culture where strong fundamentals and agentic development go together. Our engineers use modern tools to move faster, but they remain accountable for architecture, code quality, testing, security, maintainability, and production outcomes.

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer II who can own features end-to-end, contribute to architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

This role is a strong fit for engineers who are building fluency with agentic development tools, or are ready to start. Unlike our Senior Software Engineer role, deep agentic tool fluency is not a hard requirement here - this is where engineers ramp into it, with support from the team.

What you will do

• Own and deliver features - from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and support
• Contribute to architecture - participate in technical design discussions and help evolve system architecture for scalability and performance
• Collaborate effectively - work closely with designers, product managers, and engineers (local and remote) to deliver value to users
• Support and mentor - share knowledge with junior team members, conduct code reviews, and help raise the team's engineering bar
• Continuously improve - proactively identify areas to improve in the codebase, architecture, or engineering process, and help drive those changes

Required engineering skills

• 3-5 years of experience as a software engineer in a product-based environment
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
• Proficiency in full-stack web development, with a solid understanding of backend systems, APIs, and database design (SQL/NoSQL)
• Experience with scalable, distributed systems and handling increased traffic or data loads
• Solid understanding of cloud technologies, preferably AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices
• Experience writing automated tests, with a strong focus on code quality, performance, and maintainability
• Strong technical judgment - you understand trade-offs in system design and code quality, and make thoughtful decisions accordingly
• Clear communication - you collaborate well with peers and stakeholders and can explain technical concepts confidently

Growing into agentic development

We don't require deep agentic tool fluency at this level, but we're looking for engineers who are curious about it and ready to build that muscle on the job.

• Some exposure to agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or comparable tools, even if informal
• Willingness to use these tools for exploring codebases, planning changes, implementing features, and debugging - with growing independence over time
• Openness to feedback on evaluating AI-generated code critically, rather than accepting it at face value
• A learning attitude - committed to growing your skills and staying current with industry trends and tools

Preferred skills

• Experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Experience in system design, architecture patterns, and mentoring junior engineers
• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, Python, or similar stacks
