Job summary

Contour Software in Karachi is seeking a senior VB6 desktop developer to own and modernize legacy Windows applications built on VB6 and COM. You will work with the Desktop Team Lead, use Claude Code AI tools, and help plan the migration path from VB6 to the web.

You will deepen code understanding, add tests, improve build and release pipelines in GitHub and Azure DevOps, mentor teammates, and contribute to an AI-driven development lifecycle while maintaining reliability for customers.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development with VB6 in production environments.
• Deep understanding of Windows desktop architecture, data access, and VB6 debugging.
• Strong working knowledge of the COM model/ActiveX and legacy 32-bit behavior on modern Windows.
• Experience reading and documenting large legacy codebases and creating clear descriptions.
• Daily hands-on use of Claude Code or similar AI coding tool.
• Working understanding of AI-DLC and its application to legacy code.
• Experience with GitHub and Azure DevOps (ADO).
• Proven ability to weigh risk and explain tradeoffs to non-technical leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead VB6 desktop product fixes, enhancements, and releases.
• Improve build, test, and release processes for desktop products.
• Mentor Desktop team members and document learnings.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure & IT on deployments.
• Use Claude Code to analyze and document legacy code and identify risk.
