Job summary

Abacus Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to lead backend development on the MADAPI platform. You will design, implement, and optimize PHP services, RESTful APIs, and integrations, while mentoring peers and advancing DevOps practices.

The role emphasizes scalable, secure code, performance tuning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of PHP development experience in enterprise or platform environments.
• Strong experience with modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, or CodeIgniter.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, JWT, and API integrations.
• Experience with relational databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling.
• Experience with Azure Cloud services and cloud-native development practices.
• Experience using agentic development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
• Understanding of containerisation using Docker is advantageous.
• Strong debugging, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain PHP-based applications on the MADAPI platform.
• Build and enhance RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend integrations.
• Write clean, secure, scalable, and maintainable code aligned to standards.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, and database efficiency.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Analysts, Architects, and DevOps to deliver enhancements.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimations, and retrospectives; ensure successful deployments.
• Mentor junior developers and promote CI/CD, automated testing, and secure coding.
