Cynosure Designs is committed to discovering top talent and providing them with refined programs to nurture each experience. We enable an environment where team members feel comfortable bringing their full selves to work each day.
We are hiring a senior engineer to design and deliver features in a large, long-lived .NET product. You will work inside a team of senior developers, take work from a rough brief through screens, application code, database changes and query performance, and ship it on the agreed date.
You decide how a feature should work, build it, and stand behind it in production. Cursor, Claude and similar AI tools are part of how we build, and every change that lands is owned by the person who merged it.
What you will do
- Own features end to end: interaction design, screens, business rules, data model, queries, and the detail users rely on every day.
- Write and change production C#. Keep existing behaviour stable, fit new work to the current architecture, and improve the code you touch.
- Own the database work for your features: design tables and indexes, write safe migration scripts, and tune slow queries and reports so they stay correct under real data volumes.
- Build and maintain operational reports and exports, including grids, formatted documents and spreadsheet output.
- Support background processing and releases across live customer environments.
- Use AI coding tools to move faster. You write the prompts, read every diff, and ship only code you can explain.
- Add AI features only where they earn their place, with clear data boundaries and no customer or personal data in prompts, logs or third-party tools.
- Estimate from the code you have read and sequence work so a usable slice ships early. If a date is at risk, say so early, cut scope, and still deliver what users need.
Technical expertise required
- C# and .NET:strong, current production experience, including object-oriented design, clear types, and code that other seniors can maintain.
- Problem solving:you can take an unclear brief, find the real constraint in the code and data, and ship a working slice.
- Backend:production C# for business rules, data access and the host that serves the embedded screens.
- SQL Server:schema and index design, execution plans, query tuning, and safe migration scripts.
- Azure:practical use of Azure services that a .NET application depends on, with secrets and customer data kept out of code, logs and prompts.
- GitLab:daily use of branches, merge requests and code review.
- Communication:you explain a design, a risk or a date in writing and in the team, early enough that others can act on it.
What you bring
- Substantial experience as a senior engineer on a shipped .Net product, with long-term production C# and SQL Server work.
- Experience maintaining a large Windows Forms application.
- The ability to read a poor execution plan, add the right index, and rewrite a report query without changing its results.
- Experience designing the screen, writing the application code and shaping the database for the same feature.
- Experience modernising a .Net application in place, with web screens running alongside the existing Windows interface.
- Daily use of AI coding tools, with the discipline to keep generated work inside the product's patterns and review it line by line.
- A track record of committing to a release and delivering it, including regressions, data fixes and the last item a user needed before go-live.
- Good security habits: credentials stay out of source and logs, and customer and personal data are treated as regulated.
Strong advantages (not required)
- Education, training or student-information systems.
- Performance work on large reporting databases and background jobs.
- Automated tests where the logic is pure, and a short manual check where the UI cannot be tested automatically.
How we work
- You will be part of a team of senior developers, with real autonomy over design and implementation decisions in your area.
- New work follows the patterns already in the product. Older areas get safer, smaller improvements as you pass through them.
- We expect early warnings over late surprises, and we would rather cut scope than miss a date .
What you get
- Ownership of meaningful features in a product with real users and long-term value.
- Senior colleagues to design with, review with and learn from.
- Modern AI-assisted tooling as a normal part of daily work.
