Smart Working is hiring an AI Agent Engineer to build and scale production AI agents, focusing on orchestration, context engineering, evaluation, and observability. You’ll shape architecture and tooling, delivering measurable outcomes from day one as the first dedicated hire.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience building production LLM agents, including tool-calling and orchestration.
• 1.5+ years of evaluation-driven development with datasets and pipelines.
• 1+ year of LLM observability, tracing and instrumentation.
• 1+ year of LLM cost optimisation including prompt caching and routing.
• 5+ years backend engineering with TypeScript/Node, Postgres and serverless AWS.
• Experience shipping agentic AI systems to production.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve production AI agents on foundation models.
• Develop and evolve orchestration for production AI agents.
• Apply context engineering to production LLM and agent systems.
• Build and maintain evaluation datasets and pipelines for tool selection and LLM-as-judge evaluations.
• Maintain observability and monitoring for LLM and agent systems.
• Implement tracing and instrumentation for production LLM systems.
• Collaborate with AI lead as the first dedicated hire.
• Contribute to agent-architecture decisions on orchestration frameworks.
• Operate as an individual contributor within a small product team.
• Deliver measurable outcomes in line with roadmaps.
