Job summary

Braintrust is seeking a Punjabi Language Specialist (SME) to audit AI-generated Punjabi content and craft high-quality rewrites and model answers. The role involves evaluating accuracy, fluency, grammar, tone, and cultural appropriateness, with attention to register and terminology.

You will provide precise feedback, compare AI outputs to English sources, and document concise reviews to guide model improvements. Remote, hourly contractor work across time zones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Linguistics, Punjabi/English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or related fields.
• Native or near-native Punjabi proficiency (reading and writing).
• Strong professional English (C1) to provide feedback in English.
• 3+ years in writing, editing, localization, translation, QA, journalism, or language work.
• Deep Punjabi grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style understanding.
• Comfort with Gurmukhi and/or Shahmukhi scripts.
• Ability to adapt registers and audiences (India, Pakistan, diaspora).
• Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy and cultural fit.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to work hourly, remotely across time zones.
• Prior AI data training / annotation / rubric-based evaluation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and quality-check translations of English science questions (ARC) in Punjabi.
• Compare original translations and AI-proposed corrections against the English source for accuracy.
• Choose outcomes (accept original, accept AI, edit final translation, or elevate) with brief reviews.

About This Role

In this hourly, remote contractor role, you will work as a Punjabi Language Specialist (SME) to review AI-generated Punjabi content and/or create high-quality Punjabi reference content, evaluating language quality and step-by-step reasoning while providing precise written feedback. You will assess outputs for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to the prompt; identify errors in meaning, mistranslation, register (formal vs informal), ambiguity, and logical consistency; fact-check claims when needed; write high-quality rewrites and model answers that demonstrate best practices in Punjabi writing; and rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and overall quality.

Your profile

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Linguistics, Punjabi/English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Native or near-native Punjabi proficiency (reading and writing required).
• Strong professional proficiency in English (minimum C1) to follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback in English.
• 3+ years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education, or related language-focused work.
• Deep understanding of Punjabi grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, and style-able to explain why something is wrong and how to fix it.
• Comfortable handling script requirements as needed: Gurmukhi (India) and/or Shahmukhi (Pakistan). Please indicate which script(s) you can read/write.
• Comfortable handling multiple registers (formal/informal), dialect variation, and audience adaptation (India vs Pakistan vs diaspora).
• High attention to detail when spotting subtle meaning shifts, awkward literal translations, hallucinated claims, or culturally mismatched phrasing.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, translation QA, editorial QA, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.

Key responsibilities

• Task Description: Review and quality-check existing translations of English science benchmark questions (ARC) in your target language. For each item, you'll compare the original translation and an AI-proposed correction against the English source, focusing strictly on accuracy and faithfulness rather than stylistic improvement.
• You’ll review the question and answer choices only, select the appropriate outcome (accept the original, accept the AI correction, edit the final translation, or elevate), and provide a brief review comment. The goal is to preserve the source exactly—including its meaning, difficulty, answer structure, scientific terminology, and protected elements—while following the provided core and language-specific guidelines.
