Job summary

University of Alabama Libraries is seeking an NDNP Project Manager to oversee daily operations, coordinate digitization workflows, and supervise student assistants within a grant-funded faculty role.

The position emphasizes standards-based metadata, project management, and collaboration with vendors, with opportunities for early-career librarians to gain expertise in digitization best practices and grant administration.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or related field.
• Experience with digitization processes.
• Experience in project management and supervision.
• Experience applying standards-based metadata schemas (MARC, MODS, Dublin Core) and XML.
• Understanding of microfilm to digital conversion and technical standards.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and document decisions and procedures.

Responsibilities

• 70% Manage day-to-day NDNP project operations and workflow, including vendor contact, microfilm inspection, QA of digital assets, and budget monitoring.
• 20% Supervise project student assistants and coordinate staff contributions.
• 10% Develop outreach initiatives, manage project publicity, website maintenance, and engagement with the NDNP user community.
