What is Manager Optical System Design?

The Manager Optical System Design is responsible for the end-to-end planning and design of the optical transport network, encompassing OTN, IPRAN, FTTS, and passive optical fiber infrastructure. This role involves high-level and low-level design preparation, solution validation, vendor coordination documentation.

The ideal candidate is self-driven, able to work under pressure in demanding conditions, and proactive in identifying and implementing network optimization opportunities.

This position reports directly to the Head Transport Networks.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and deploy optical transport systems across new and existing networks.
• Evaluate and validate vendor-proposed technical solutions to ensure alignment with network standards.
• Conduct high-level design (HLD), low-level design (LLD), link budget analysis, and signal protection planning for transmission infrastructure.
• Develop strategies for seamless integration of new optical platforms into the existing network.
• Deliver detailed implementation and migration plans, ensuring optimal service provisioning and restoration capabilities.
• Facilitate integration between the optical transport domain and upper-layer service domains.
• Prepare and evaluate RFPs for Optical platforms, including the Specification, Equipment, and professional services.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation including wavelength plans, restoration maps, SOPs, MOPs, link inventories, and fiber route layouts.
• Develop and maintain MOPs and SOPs for field engineers and technical support teams.
• Engage continuously with network operations teams to address and optimize ongoing operational challenges.
• Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate project inputs.
• Oversee FTTH network architecture, including GPON/XGS-PON, splitter planning, and customer-side provisioning.
• Deliver link budget calculations, optical loss analysis, and fiber route optimization.
• Able to Work on cutting-edge projects including nationwide FTTH rollouts, metro ring upgrades, and submarine landing expansions.
• Collaborate with international carriers, hyperscalers, and Tier-1 vendors.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

Min 12 years of relevant experience in optical network planning and transport technologies.

Technical Expertise

• In-depth knowledge of optical transport (OTN/DWDM), IP/MPLS, IPRAN, and FTTS technologies.
• Proficiency in HLD/LLD preparation, link budget calculation, and network integration.
• Familiarity with industry standards, protocols, and vendor equipment.
• Lead the end-to-end design and review of high-capacity optical systems (e.g., long-haul, metro, or submarine).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (planning, field ops, vendors) to ensure feasibility, cost-efficiency, and scalability.
• Strong command on optical simulation tools (e.g., OptiSystem, VPIphotonics).
• Experience in fiber type selection, attenuation analysis, and amplifier planning (EDFA/Raman).
