Job summary

SMEC is seeking a motivated Lab Technician to join the team on a key hydropower project based in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. You will conduct laboratory and field testing of construction materials to support quality standards and project specifications.

The role requires hands-on experience in testing concrete, aggregates and soil, with strong QA/QC collaboration and documentation, and a commitment to safety and accuracy on site.

Qualifications

• Diploma or B.Sc. in Civil Engineering or relevant technical qualification.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in construction materials testing.
• Experience in hydropower, dams or major civil projects is desirable.
• Good knowledge of testing methods for concrete, aggregates and soil.
• Familiarity with QA/QC standards and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory and field tests on concrete, aggregates, soil, and other construction materials.
• Collect, prepare, label, and test material samples according to procedures and standards.
• Monitor and record test results and prepare laboratory reports and quality documentation.
• Assist QA/QC engineers in verifying quality and compliance of construction materials.
• Conduct field testing and support site inspections as required.
• Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment and report issues.
• Identify and report material test failures or non-conformances.

The role

• Conduct laboratory and field tests on concrete, aggregates, soil, and other construction materials.


• Collect, prepare, label, and test material samples in accordance with approved procedures and standards.


• Monitor and record test results and prepare laboratory reports and quality documentation.


• Assist QA/QC engineers in verifying the quality and compliance of construction materials.


• Conduct field testing and support site inspections as required.


• Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment and report any issues.


• Assist in identifying and reporting material test failures or non-conformances.

You will bring proven experience in a similar consultancy role, along with a strong ability to build trusted relationships, drive positive change and secure new opportunities.

Suitable applicants will have/be

• Diploma, B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, or relevant technical qualification.


• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work.


• Experience in hydropower, dams, infrastructure, or major civil construction projects is highly desirable.


• Good knowledge of testing methods for concrete, aggregates, and soil.


• Familiarity with relevant testing standards and QA/QC requirements.


• Good communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
