Job summary

Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, seeks a Head Nurse for the Paediatric Oncology unit to lead nursing care and operations. The role oversees 24/7 staffing, ensures high-quality patient outcomes, and mentors a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe treatment plans.

The ideal candidate holds a BScN with a license in good standing and at least four years of experience, including two in a leadership role. Master’s preferred; CPR, PALS and related certifications are required.

Qualifications

• BScN from an accredited school with a valid nursing license.
• Master's degree preferred for advanced leadership roles.
• 4+ years of nursing experience, with at least 2 in management.
• CPR, Safe Medication Administration, aseptic techniques, IV cannulation and PALS certified.

Responsibilities

• Manage 24/7 staffing scheduling to ensure quality and safe patient care.
• Ensure timely physician rounds and accurate treatment regimens.
• Meet patients and families to resolve concerns related to care.
• Collaborate with support services to meet patient needs.
• Lead multidisciplinary quality improvement projects.
• Set and monitor unit standards, goals, and priorities.
• Encourage staff development and mentorship in nursing.
• Monitor credentialing requirements for nursing staff.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

• Manage 24/7 staffing scheduling as per the hospital standards set for assuring quality and safe patient care and remain available for shift schedule as per needs
• Exhibit excellent management in executing quality patient care and ensure that physician rounds for all patients are timely completed, patients are reviewed and monitored for the treatment modalities and patient regimens are being accurately followed
• Regularly meet patients and their families to resolve complaints and issues relating to care and any other related concerns
• Collaborate with all support service departments to ensure quality care and meet requirements of patients
• Work with multidisciplinary teams on quality projects to improve unit core processes
• Establish and ensure that unit-based standards, goals, objectives and priorities are prepared and monitored against the standards
• Encourage creativity, initiative and innovativeness in nursing staff and mentor nursing workforce for provision of good services and staff development.
• Monitor credentialing requirements of nursing staff.
• Assess learning needs of staff and ensure completion of CBO

• Actively participate in multidisciplinary rounds.

Requirements:

You should have:

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited school, preferably a Master's degree in the same field, and a valid license from the Pakistan Nursing Council.
• At least four years of relevant experience, of which at least two years of experience should be at a nursing management level
• Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Safe Medication Administration, Aseptic Techniques, I/V Cannulation, and Paediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
• Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet stringent deadlines
• Willingness to work in shift duties (mornings, evenings and nights).
