Job summary

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy is seeking a cook and caretaker to manage the Aga Khan Health Service guesthouse property. The role combines kitchen duties with overseeing guesthouse operations and basic property maintenance.

The ideal candidate has multifaceted cooking skills and solid experience in housekeeping and guest interaction. The position requires proficiency in Urdu and basic English, ability to supervise janitorial staff, and strong health and hygiene practices.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably with an international organization or a four-star hotel as a chef.
• Good experience as a caretaker of a medium-sized property.
• Proficient in cooking Pakistani, continental and Chinese food.
• Experience in baking & grilling.

Responsibilities

• Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
• Prepares ingredients (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.).
• Keeps a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment.
• Ensures all food and other items are stored properly.
• Monitors stock and places orders for replenishment.
• Prepares foods to guests' specifications and dietary requirements.
• Estimates expected food consumption and organizes preparation.
• Keeps records of food purchases.
• Manages and works well with other kitchen staff.

Job Description:

Cook responsibilities: (60%)

• Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment


• Prepares ingredients (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)


• Keeps a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen


• Ensures all food and other items are stored properly


• Monitors stock and place orders for re-stocking the kitchen


• Perform any other related duties as assigned


• Prepares foods to the specifications & dietary requirements of the guests


• Estimates expected food consumption and organizes preparation


• Keeps records and accounts of food purchases


• Manages & works well other kitchen staff

Caretaker responsibilities (40%)

• Responsible for looking after USEFP guesthouse property, asset, and the guests.


• Meets and greets the guests


• Prevents unauthorized personnel from entering or damaging the property.


• Reports & coordinates general repairs & reports various occurrences such as power outages, sewerage issues and other minor maintenance


• Ensures that the premises is clean and free of hazardous materials.


• Supervises janitorial staff to ensure appropriate cleaning, dusting, vacuum cleaning, lawn mopping, fence & hedges maintenance and disposal of waste material/garbage on regular basis.


• Takes and maintains delivered items and dispatch goods and materials as instructed.


• Manages laundry, bedsheets, curtains etc through the vendor.


• Performs any other related duties as assigned from time to time

Other requirements:

• Proficient in cooking Pakistani, continental and Chinese food


• Experience of baking & grilling


• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize & prepare food for large gatherings, functions and official events


• Familiar with culinary art and ability to use kitchen equipment


• Able to perform kitchen and cooking related tasks including grocery & stock management


• Familiarity with general maintenance and repair works


• Ability to multi-task and supervise janitorial staff


• Must be able to read and write Urdu language & be able to understand basic instructions given in English language


• Proven experience of dealing with foreigners and guests


• Good understanding of and ability to maintain health and hygiene standards & sanitation procedures


• Reliable and dependable with good team working skills


• Good physical health, personal hygiene and stamina


• Well-mannered, courteous and groomed individual


• Must be able to provide at least two reliable & verifiable references from the most recent/current employment
