Job summary

SIEHS is seeking an Auto Electrician to diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems on ambulances and fleet vehicles. You will handle wiring, batteries, lighting, sirens, and onboard power circuits, supporting fleet safety and mission readiness.

You will work with a team on-site and respond to breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and documentation of repairs. Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience is expected; matriculated with auto-electrical training is

Qualifications

  • Experience repairing automotive electrical systems in fleet or commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of 12V/24V electrical systems and safety standards.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and follow electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults in vehicle wiring harnesses, starters, alternators, and batteries.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain emergency lighting, sirens, and comms wiring.
  • Carry out routine electrical checks during preventive maintenance visits.
  • Test and replace faulty sensors, relays, fuses, and control modules.
  • Diagnose air-conditioning electrical faults with the AC Technician.
  • Maintain records of repairs, parts usage and job cards.
  • Ensure repairs comply with safety standards before sign-off.
  • Respond to field breakdown calls as part of mobile workshop team.

Job description

General Purpose

The Auto Electrician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic systems of ambulances and fleet vehicles, including wiring, batteries, lighting, sirens, and onboard medical/communication equipment power circuits, to keep the fleet safe and mission ready.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair faults in vehicle wiring harnesses, starter motors, alternators, and batteries.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain emergency lighting, sirens, and communication/tracking equipment wiring.
  • Carry out routine electrical checks during preventive maintenance visits.
  • Test and replace faulty sensors, relays, fuses, and control modules.
  • Diagnose air-conditioning electrical faults in coordination with the AC Technician.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical repairs, parts consumption, and job cards.
  • Ensure all electrical repairs comply with vehicle safety standards before sign-off.
  • Respond to field breakdown calls involving electrical faults as part of the mobile workshop team.
Skills & Competencies
  • Sound knowledge of 12V/24V automotive electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with multimeters, circuit testers, and auto-electrical diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Good troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergency breakdown calls.
Working Conditions
  • Workshop and field environment; exposure to vehicle electrical systems and moving parts.
  • May require working in confined spaces (under dash, engine bay).
  • On-call availability for emergency breakdowns, including nights and holidays.
Qualification:

Matriculation with 3 S Workshop Certification / diploma in Auto-Electrical or Electrical Technology preferred.

Experience: -

Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in automotive electrical repair, preferably on fleet or commercial vehicles.
