Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Revenue Cycle Management Specialist (Elation) to manage revenue cycle processes across multiple healthcare practices. In this role, you will oversee insurance eligibility verification, prior authorizations, pre-submission coding reviews, denial resolutions, and A/R aging follow-ups. Working primarily within Elation and Slack, you will collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve billing discrepancies and appeal denied claims within payer deadlines. This full-time remote position requires prior U.S. healthcare RCM experience and operates during US Mountain Standard Time (MST) business hours.
Schedule
- Mon - Fri, final schedule to be determined, MST (40 hrs per week)
Responsibilities
1. Eligibility and Benefits
- Verify eligibility and benefits for every scheduled visit, including new patients handed off from intake.
- Confirm active coverage, plan type, PCP assignment for Medicare Advantage and AHCCCS plans, copay, deductible, and coinsurance.
- Update insurance in Elation and flag inactive or mismatched coverage in Slack before the visit.
2. Prior Authorizations
- Identify orders that need authorization: referrals, imaging, DME, home health, and medications.
- Submit, track, and document each authorization in Elation until approved or denied.
- Alert the provider in Slack on any denial or peer-to-peer request.
3. Pre-Submission Coding Review
- Scrub signed provider notes in Elation before claims are submitted.
- Check that CPT/E/M level, ICD-10-CM codes, modifiers, place of service, and rendering NPI match the documentation.
- Catch missing elements: unsigned notes, missing time for time-based codes (including CCM), and unsupported diagnoses.
- Send fixes to the provider in Slack and hold the claim until the note is corrected.
4. Denial Management
- Work every denial and underpayment from the ERA/EOB to root cause.
- Submit corrected claims, reopenings, reconsiderations, and appeals within payer deadlines.
- Fix eligibility, authorization, and coding denials at the source so they do not repeat.
- Report denial trends weekly, by practice, payer, and reason.
5. A/R Aging
- Work aging by dollar value and age; call payers on claims past expected payment and document every call.
- Report A/R by bucket (0-30, 31-60, 61-90, 90+) per practice each week.
- Send charge errors found in denials to the billing partner through Slack.
Must-Have Requirements
- 3+ years of U.S. healthcare RCM focused on eligibility, prior authorization, coding review, denials, and A/R follow-up
- Elation and Slack experience (required)
- Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and modifiers for primary care E/M, including CCM time rules
- Experience with Medicare Part B, Medicare Advantage, AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) plans, and commercial payers
- Experience with payer portals (Availity, Medicare MAC portal, plan portals) and reading ERAs/EOBs with CARC/RARC codes
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- CPC, CRCR, or CPB certification
- Primary care experience, including chronic care management (CCM) and home visits
- athenaOne, Practice Fusion, or Practice Suite experience
Independent Contractor Perks
- Permanent work from home
- Immediate hiring
- Health Insurance Coverage for eligible locations
