A rural water association is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Technician III to oversee the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. Key responsibilities include monitoring sewage flow, maintaining records, performing laboratory tests, and leading plant operators. The ideal candidate should have a vocational high school education, certification as a Wastewater Operator III, and at least four years of relevant experience.

Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the wastewater treatmentChief Operator and/or Foreman, is responsible for the operation and maintenanceof the wastewater treatment plant.
Job Duties
Monitors and regulates the rate of flow of raw sewage intothe plant and between each of the separate treatment operations.
Maintains plant records, takes scheduled laboratory samplesat various locations throughout the plant and performs certain laboratorytests.
Performs maintenance and housekeeping duties in providing aneat and efficient operation meeting or exceeding state and federalrequirements.
Performs operation and preventative maintenance of pumps,bar screens, grit chambers, motors and any other working components of theplant.
Performs major overhaul and repair of plant equipment orassists other technical personnel in more complex plant equipment repairs.
Directs the work of other plant operators in the leaning andgeneral maintenance of plant facilities and assists in the proper training andguidance of newer employees as required by the wastewater plant superintendent.
Operates and maintains sludge handling and disposalequipment.
Performs other duties related to the proper and efficientoperation of the wastewater treatment plant.
Qualifications
Graduation from a standard senior vocational high school andat least four (4) years of increasingly progressive experience kin theoperation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. One year of which must have been at the levelof a Wastewater treatment Plant Operator II.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards involvedin working around mechanical and electrical equipment, chemicals, etc. and theability to do hard manual work under unfavorable weather conditions, inconfined spaces and unpleasant work surroundings.
Certification by the State of New Mexico as a WastewaterOperator III.
Ability to perform simple, non-complex laboratory proceduresand numerical calculations, to read charts, gauges and meters to keep detailedlogs of system operating conditions.
Ability to read and understand operating instructions,equipment manuals and related written material.
Ability to supervise and provide leadership to other plantoperators.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Drivers License.
Promotion depends on experience wastewater utilityoperator’s certification, job training, availability, job performance,seniority and job opening.
