Job description

Creative | Shrimpy Business Fully Remote | Philippines Full-time

Video Editor - YouTube Specialist

Turn real aquarium conversations into YouTube videos people find, watch, and learn from—then bring the strongest moments to Shorts and social media.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit raw videos into compelling YouTube episodes. Remove unnecessary waiting, repetition, technical interruptions, and tangents. Structure the conversation so viewers can follow it while preserving the host’s personality and the expert’s meaning.
  • Create focused videos from individual questions. Identify answers that can stand on their own, such as choosing beginner shrimp, understanding water parameters, acclimating livestock, or selecting compatible tankmates. Include enough context for someone who has not watched the original session.
  • Find and edit the strongest short-form moments. Turn useful answers, surprising explanations, demonstrations, and memorable exchanges into YouTube Shorts and social clips. Give each clip a clear opening, a worthwhile payoff, and a natural ending.
  • Adapt content across aspect ratios. Produce landscape 16:9 videos, vertical 9:16 edits, and square 1:1 or portrait 4:5 versions where needed. Reframe intentionally so the host, aquarium footage, graphics, and captions remain readable.
  • Make aquarium content visually clear. Use relevant tank footage, species close-ups, demonstrations, labels, and simple graphics to support the explanation. Match visuals to the species or process being discussed and flag missing footage.
  • Protect the accuracy of expert advice. Preserve conditions and qualifications that affect an answer—for example, tank size, species, water conditions, or individual fish behavior. Ask the host or expert to review uncertain statements, terminology, and captions.
  • Deliver clean audio and consistent visuals. Improve dialogue clarity, balance sound levels, correct color, synchronize footage, and use music thoughtfully. Keep speech easy to understand and aquarium detail visible.
  • Create accurate, readable captions. Check automated transcripts, especially species names and aquarium terminology. Adapt caption placement and pacing to the format.
  • Support YouTube packaging. Propose clear titles, thumbnail concepts, opening hooks, descriptions, chapters, and relevant next-video suggestions. Coordinate with the design and brand teams so the packaging accurately represents the content.
  • Prepare publishing‑ready deliveries. Supply final exports, caption files, thumbnail assets or briefs, and supporting copy in the agreed formats. Coordinate uploads, scheduling, and final checks with the person responsible for publishing.
  • Support content beyond the channel. Provide clean transcripts, timestamps, and relevant clips to teammates creating website articles, FAQs, email content, and social posts.
  • Connect useful advice with relevant next steps. Where appropriate, incorporate an approved product, bundle, care guide, or related‑video recommendation that follows naturally from the topic.
  • Improve edits using viewer response. Review retention, watch time, thumbnail click‑through rate, Shorts performance, and comments with the team. Identify where viewers lose interest or need more clarity, and apply those lessons to future videos.
  • Keep the production workflow organized. Manage footage, project files, linked assets, versions, feedback, and exports. Maintain a clear queue so the team knows what is being edited, reviewed, and prepared for release.
  • Give the recording team useful feedback. Flag recurring audio, framing, pacing, or coverage problems and suggest practical improvements that will make future sessions easier to edit.
  • The Content You’ll Work On — Topics may include:
  • Choosing a first aquarium or a first pet for a child.
  • Planning beginner and small‑tank setups.
  • Shrimp, snail, and fish compatibility.
  • Water parameters, hard tap water, and remineralization.
  • Acclimation, feeding, algae, breeding, and maintenance.
  • Customer tank showcases and aquascape stories.
  • Product demonstrations and practical recommendations.
  • Our goal is to make expert knowledge accessible while helping viewers decide what is appropriate for their own aquarium.
  • Your Opening Mandate: First 60–90 Days — First 30 days: Learn the brand, audience, footage sources, and review process. Establish editing templates, file organization, caption styling, and delivery standards. Complete an initial set of long‑form and short‑form edits.
  • Days 31–60: Build a dependable workflow from recorded session to edited episode, focused answer videos, and social clips. Recommend improvements to recording and content packaging.
  • Days 61–90: Use early performance data and team feedback to improve openings, pacing, topic selection, and repurposing. Help establish a sustainable release schedule.
  • We will agree output targets based on recording frequency, footage length, editing complexity, and available support.
Qualifications & Skills
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong YouTube editing, including both long‑form videos and Shorts. Explain which parts you personally edited or developed.
  • Experience editing interviews, podcasts, livestream recordings, educational videos, or other dialogue‑led content.
  • Strong editorial judgment. You can find the central question, identify the useful answer, and remove material that slows the video down.
  • Proficiency in a professional editing application such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Practical skills in audio cleanup, color correction, captions, basic motion graphics, and delivery across multiple aspect ratios.
  • Understanding of YouTube viewer behavior and packaging, including openings, pacing, titles, thumbnails, and audience retention.
  • Strong English comprehension and writing skills. You can follow unscripted conversations, correct captions, and recognize when an edit changes the speaker’s meaning.
  • Ability to work independently, manage several deliverables from one recording, and incorporate feedback reliably.
  • A computer capable of handling the footage and projects required for the role, reliable internet, and sufficient storage for an organized remote workflow.
  • Willingness to learn aquarium terminology and seek expert clarification where necessary.
  • Thoughtful use of AI‑assisted transcription, captioning, footage search, and editing tools, with careful human review.
  • Experience Especially Relevant to This Role — Educational YouTube channels: Helpful for making complex explanations clear and engaging.
  • Podcast or livestream repurposing: Helpful for finding standalone videos within longer conversations.
  • Science, pets, nature, or hobby content: Helpful for working with technical terms and visually demonstrating advice.
  • Thumbnail and title development: Helpful for connecting the edit with the reason a viewer chooses to watch.
  • Aquarium keeping or aquascaping: A welcome advantage, though it is not required.
What we're looking for
  • Someone who can turn a long recording into a clear editorial plan.
  • Someone who recognizes when a short clip needs one more sentence of context.
  • Someone who understands that a strong hook should accurately represent the answer.
  • Someone who can make an explanation engaging through thoughtful pacing and useful visuals.
  • Someone who checks whether a caption, species image, or graphic is correct.
  • Someone who can adapt a video for vertical viewing while keeping the important action visible.
  • Someone who takes feedback well and can explain the reasoning behind an edit.
  • Someone who cares about both the quality of each video and the reliability of the ongoing workflow.
What we offer
  • A fully remote role based in the Philippines. Work with a distributed team under agreed collaboration hours and delivery expectations.
  • A clear creative focus. Help build Shrimpy Business’s YouTube and short‑form content program.
  • Recurring original footage. Work with expert Q&As, real conversations, demonstrations, and community stories.
  • Editorial ownership. Contribute to structure, hooks, packaging, and the choice of moments worth publishing.
  • Direct feedback on results. See how viewers respond and use that evidence to improve your work.
  • Collaboration with specialists. Work alongside the host, subject‑matter experts, brand team, and relevant creative and marketing colleagues.
  • Compensation reflecting your experience and the scope. We will discuss the package and working arrangements transparently during the introductory conversation.
Our hiring process
  • Application. Share your résumé or background, portfolio, current location, and availability. Identify the work you personally edited. Send your résumé or background, portfolio, current location in the Philippines, and availability.
  • Portfolio and introductory discussion. Walk us through a long‑form video and a short‑form edit. Explain your decisions, workflow, and any results available.
  • Short practical exercise. Using supplied footage, create a focused YouTube segment and a vertical short. The brief, expected time commitment will be agreed before you begin.
  • Editorial review. Discuss your selections, pacing, captions, reframing, and approach to preserving the expert’s meaning.
  • Final team conversation and references. Align on responsibilities, equipment, collaboration hours, output expectations, compensation, and next steps.
