Job description

Tax Accountant (Remote) — Complex Returns for Clients Abroad

Philippines (100% Remote) · Full-Time · Night Shift (aligned with North American hours)

Be the expert clients turn to when it counts most — tax season. You’ll prepare and review complex returns, lead smart tax planning, and turn dense regulations into practical guidance people can actually act on.

About the Role

You’ll take ownership of the work that keeps business leaders calm and compliant: multi-entity return preparation and review, clear planning memos, airtight workpapers, and timely sign-offs. You’ll catch elections, credits, and apportionment issues before they turn into problems — then lay them out in plain English. You’ll work with teams abroad, mentor junior staff, and help modernize how small businesses and accounting firms handle compliance and advisory, sharpening the playbooks (checklists, review notes, close calendars) so every busy season feels a little less busy.

This role is open to both Tax Accountant and Tax Manager candidates, depending on experience.

The Ideal Candidate

You’re detail-obsessed but practical — you know when to go deep and when to keep moving. You can explain tough topics (basis, §199A, depreciation methods) without the jargon. You thrive in busy seasons because your SOPs, checklists, and calendars are dialed in. You enjoy coaching others and raising the quality bar, and you’re always finding automation and small process wins that compound over time.

What You’ll Own

Tax Preparation & Review. Drive tax intake end to end — organizers, document requests, kickoff calls — and map client trial balances and prior-year returns to this year’s workplan. Handle entity returns (1065/1120/1120‑S): build and review K‑1s, capital accounts, partner/shareholder basis and at‑risk; evaluate §199A (QBI) eligibility and limitations; and assess reasonable compensation for S‑corp shareholder‑employees. Prepare individual returns (1040) with clean Schedules A/B/C/D/E, Forms 4797 and 6252, passive activity loss and basis tracking, 1099‑B reconciliations, and wash‑sale checks; roll forward carryforwards (NOL, capital loss, AMT credits) and manage estimated payments and safe harbors. Manage multi‑state and SALT work — apportionment, nexus updates, composite/non‑resident returns, and PTE/SALT‑cap workaround elections where applicable. Surface and document credits and elections (R&D, 179/bonus choices, accounting method changes, late‑election relief memos). Maintain fixed‑asset and depreciation schedules (Form 4562, asset ledgers, disposal and partial‑disposition rules) and reconcile book vs. tax depreciation. Build audit‑ready workpapers with clear tick marks, review notes, and support, and manage e‑file submissions, acknowledgments, and extensions. Draft concise responses to tax‑authority notices, set follow‑up reminders, and keep clients calm with clear options and timelines. Own busy‑season checkpoints (intake → prep → review → client Q&A → e‑file) and off‑season planning (estimates, projections, method changes).

Client Collaboration. Join standing calls, summarize impacts (cash, rate, timing), and deliver one‑page takeaways leaders can act on. Translate code citations into plain‑English business decisions.

Workflow & Process. Standardize SOPs, checklists, and review gates; set up rules and automations in tax and accounting tools to reduce manual steps; and capture wins in a living playbook.

Data Integrity. Keep folders organized, naming consistent, and documentation complete, so any reviewer or auditor can follow your work quickly.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Two or more years of tax experience preparing and reviewing 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120‑S returns. Strong command of federal and state tax rules, with comfort around GAAP and standard tax‑authority procedures. Tax software proficiency (ProConnect, UltraTax, Drake, Lacerte, or similar) and a cloud‑first toolkit (QuickBooks Online, Xero, plus strong Excel/Google Sheets skills — lookups, pivots). Confident written and spoken English and a client‑facing presence. Comfortable working a night shift aligned with North American business hours.

Nice to have: HNW 1040s (K‑1s, Schedule C/E), multi‑state, consolidated or international exposure (GILTI/FTC); and Form 990 (nonprofits) or Form 1041 (estates & trusts) experience.

How We Work

Quality — review notes, standardized workpapers, and tidy supporting schedules, every time. Security — MFA, least‑privilege access, and secure file sharing are non‑negotiable. Collaboration — Slack/Zoom/Teams standups, shared task boards, and predictable review cycles.
