We’re looking for a detail-oriented tax expert who can confidently manage compliance, reporting, and bookkeeping tasks for our diverse client base. About The Role

As a US/AU Tax Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring tax compliance and accurate financial reporting for clients across the United States or Australia. From preparing and lodging tax returns to managing bookkeeping and payroll processes, you’ll be the go-to expert for regulatory accuracy and operational efficiency. Your contributions will directly support our clients’ financial stability and regulatory confidence.

Responsibilities

  • For Australian Clients:
  • Prepare, review, and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) in accordance with ATO requirements.
  • Manage and review bookkeeping activities, including:
  • Xero setup, training, and maintenance
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Accounts payable and receivable processing
  • Manual journal entries and general ledger review
  • Payroll calculations and administration
  • For US Clients:
  • Prepare and lodge income tax returns, sales tax reports, and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns for individuals, partnerships, and businesses.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax obligations under US federal and state tax laws.
  • Oversee the correct application of sales tax and manage payroll tax reporting when required.
  • General:
  • Provide clients with tax guidance, identify compliance issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Contribute to improving internal workflows and documentation practices to ensure accurate, consistent tax compliance.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, delivering timely updates, training on software tools, and ensuring accurate documentation submission.

Competencies And Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting, with direct involvement in US or Australian client work.
  • Familiarity with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations, BAS/IAS processes, and Xero bookkeeping tools.
  • Understanding of US federal and state tax laws, income tax, sales tax, and FBT compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • A CPA or other relevant certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting tools such as Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, or other relevant tax and bookkeeping systems.
  • Strong analytical and review skills to ensure compliance and accuracy across tax reports and financial statements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with clients remotely and explain complex tax matters clearly.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, handle confidential information, and independently complete high-quality deliverables.
