Private Advertiser is seeking an Underwriter / Senior Underwriter – Post Close QC to review and re-underwrite residential mortgage loan files for accuracy, compliance, and proper documentation across agency and investor guidelines. You will perform pre-funding and post-closing audits, recalculate income/assets/DTI/LTV, and verify TRID and other regulations.
You will document defects with clear recommendations while managing multiple files in a production-driven environment.
The Underwriter / Senior Underwriter – Post Close QC is responsible for reviewing and re-underwriting residential mortgage loan files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company, agency, investor, state, and federal requirements. This role performs pre-funding and post-closing quality control audits covering credit, income, assets, property, eligibility, documentation, and underwriting decisions.
Loan Quality Control & Re-Underwriting
Conduct detailed pre-funding and post-closing audits of residential mortgage loan files.
Review income, assets, credit reports, liabilities, purchase contracts, appraisals, title documents, disclosures, and other loan documentation.
Recalculate income, assets, debt-to-income (DTI), loan-to-value (LTV), and other eligibility factors to validate underwriting accuracy.
Verify that loan decisions comply with applicable agency and investor guidelines, including FNMA, Freddie Mac, FHA/HUD, VA, and USDA.
Compliance & Policy Review
Evaluate loan origination, underwriting, closing, and funding processes for compliance with company policies and established procedures.
Ensure adherence to applicable state and federal regulations, including TRID, TILA, ECOA, CFPB, Regulation Z, Regulation B, and Regulation X.
Determine whether proper procedures and documentation were followed throughout the loan lifecycle.
Fraud & Risk Identification
Review loan files for red flags, inconsistencies, potential fraud, and other credit or documentation risks.
Identify underwriting defects and determine their impact on loan eligibility and compliance.
Ensure findings are accurately documented with clear supporting details and recommendations.
Audit Documentation & Reporting
Record audit findings accurately and comprehensively in the designated quality control system.
Provide clear documentation of identified defects, exceptions, and compliance issues.
Escalate significant findings and potential risks to appropriate stakeholders.
Guideline & Industry Knowledge
Maintain current knowledge of agency, investor, state, and federal mortgage guidelines.
Participate in ongoing training to remain current with regulatory, investor, and industry changes.
Apply current underwriting standards consistently across all reviewed files.
Work Management
Manage multiple loan files and competing priorities while meeting established turnaround times and quality standards.
Work independently in a production-driven environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Maintain professional communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in mortgage lending, finance, banking, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in US Mortgage Underwriting.
Strong experience with conventional and government loan underwriting.
Experience with manual and automated underwriting.
FHA Direct Endorsement and/or VA SAR certification preferred.
Experience in mortgage quality control or a multi-client environment is an advantage.
Expert knowledge of US mortgage underwriting guidelines and agency requirements.
Strong knowledge of income and asset calculation and verification.
Proficiency in analyzing credit reports, liabilities, purchase contracts, appraisals, title commitments, and other loan documentation.
Strong understanding of closing processes, underwriting conditions, closing instructions, TRID, and loan funding.
Expert knowledge of Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS), including Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor/Loan Prospector (LP).
Knowledge of Encompass and ACES is an advantage.
Strong understanding of federal and state mortgage compliance requirements.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment.
