Job summary

Magnum Ice Cream Company is seeking a Technical Operator to operate, maintain, improve and repair OMIR equipment across production lines. You will contribute to achieving production targets while upholding safety, quality, and environmental standards.

You will work within an autonomous team, applying ICMS and AM principles, coaching peers, and driving continuous improvement to reduce waste and cost. Strong English communication is required.

Qualifications

  • College degree or technical training in mechanical/electrical/automation disciplines.
  • Familiarity with AM (Autonomous Maintenance) steps 1–3 is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
  • Good problem solving and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, improve and repair OMIR equipment to meet production targets.

The role Responsible for the operation, maintenance, improvement and repair of equipment to support the delivery of operational KPIs (Productivity, Quality, Safety, Health and Environment, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Innovation and Sustainability.)

The Technical Operator (TO) should master the operation of a series of machines/processes in at least 2 areas of the factory in order to provide factory resilience. Supported by the core skills to work within an autonomous team, the TO diligently follows the established standards of production delivery and drives continuous improvement. Safety, quality and eco‑efficiency are the hallmarks of the TO which complement an enhanced ability to analyse, solve problems and coach others. The TO will have basic understanding how the business operates, understanding of losses and cost drivers in the factory such as OEE, Waste, Yield – translating this know‑how to concrete actions in improving the line or area of assignment. The TO provides immediate leadership responsibility in assigned productions line/s through leadership by example and coaching of Machine Operators and/or Manufacturing Crew. The TO is responsible for all team reports, including manning allocation within his shift assignment.

What you’ll be responsible for

Ice Cream Manufacturing System (ICMS) – Understands ICMS philosophy, targets waste and expense in order to drive improvement in factory performance. Possesses a critical mind able to innovate efficient processes and embrace new technologies in a timely manner to drive competitive advantage. Knowledgeable in Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Steps 1 to 3 and able to implement its principles.

Technical – Knowledge and application of technical skills to Operate, Maintain, Improve and Repair (OMIR) equipment. This allows production targets to be met safely, at the right level of quality and on time. Understands the principles of mechanism and motion and be able to conduct changeovers, basic repairs and adjustments (e.g. Cams, slides, bearings, belts and pulleys). Utilize appropriate lubrication regimes. Understands the principles and application of pneumatics in the factory; able to conduct fault finding and basic repair. Able to operate and maintain the recombination plants (Mix Plant), including ageing room equipment, auxiliaries, and controls specifically for Mix Plant Technical Operators. Monitors and evaluates the condition of equipment, machinery and components using ICMS tools, instrumentation and other diagnostic techniques. Works with technicians (SST / MST) to eliminate sources of contamination and hard to access areas. Conducts AM activities based on the maintenance calendar.

Safety, Health and Environment – Follows and utilises all appropriate safety, health and environmental procedures and protocols relating to the factory and allocated equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team. Performs Safety Behavioural Observations (SBO) as part of daily routine. Workplace Hazards – Full knowledge of the workplace and hazards within it. Utilises all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the task.

Environment – Reduces environmental impacts and costs associated with utilities, chemicals and product and operational wastes through maximising eco‑efficient operation.

Quality and Food Safety – Performs product CRQS checks, line clearance assessment, ensures compliance to Food Safety and Hygiene protocols (Dry Floor Policy, Machine CIP/COP, Line GMP, Top 5 for Zero compliance, CCP and oPRP compliance) and monitors quality against set standards (Ice Cream GMP, HACCP, Ice Cream Micro, FOM Control, FSSC 22000 and related PRPs) and reports any mix, product, raw and packaging material defects/issues as part of QBO and Quality Incident escalation process. Detects process abnormalities quickly and takes emergency action to prevent them through timely accomplishment of Q‑EWO and CAPA.

Decision Making – Identifies repeated problems with production and repeated causes of breakdowns and suggests how to solve these. Actively contributes to mechanical and continuous improvements. Makes decisions to minimise production loss e.g., mechanical improvements to reduce waste. Makes decisions to support effective team working e.g., arranging cover and managing training.

Continuous Improvement – Use performance measures to identify and prioritise losses in production area. Leads the team with Focused Improvement. Problem Solving – Identifies, prioritises and addresses problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence. Capable and confident of using Kaizen and other improvement tools. Leads Kaizen projects.

Leadership – Promotes the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and effective problem solving and conflict management. Maintains focus on goals and targets.

Coaching – Champions specific skills within the semi‑autonomous and autonomous team and coach them to others (e.g., Machine Operator, Manufacturing Crew) in order to drive excellence.

Business Awareness – Understands the need to meet changing demands of consumers and the role of marketing and product innovation in supporting growth strategies of the business.

Administration – Leads shift manning coordination to arrange shift and break cover, induct new employees and address performance shortfalls to ensure that team resources can meet operational requirements. KPIs and KAIs driven.

We're looking for someone who

College degree or 3‑year technical course graduate of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Automation, Electro‑Mechanic disciplines or have completed TMICC/MRIC’s Technical Operator Training Program. Possess necessary aptitude to enter Technical Operator curriculum through demonstration of basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform problem solving in factory environment. Ability to organise, lead and coach a team. Reading and comprehension skills in English. Arithmetic skills. Basic English verbal and written communication skills. Required to support report writing, data analysis, problem solving, mechanical calculations, leadership and coaching skills.

ESSENTIAL

Core Engineering Skills – at least 3 years work experience in Maintenance, Bench Fitting and/or Machining Experience working in food manufacturing. Strong leadership and communication skills. Fresh graduates with strong academic achievement may also be considered.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE

Manufacturing experience from Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and/or Food Processing industries. Experience as a team member within a Project Management team with an awareness of project management tools and techniques. Lean Methodologies, TPM, FSSC 22000 experience.
