The role requires translating technical requirements into clear annotation guidelines and driving performance with a focus on continuous improvement. You will mentor and train annotation staff, manage workflows, and coordinate with engineering teams to resolve issues while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Degree or degree-equivalent in a technical field (CS/Engineering/Math/Data Science).
• Experience in data annotation, QA, robotics operations, CV or ML environments.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising technical teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to handle ambiguity.
• Proven ability to learn technical concepts quickly and communicate them well.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily annotation team operations: workload planning, coaching, training, issue resolution.
• Serve as primary technical resource for annotation activities and requirements.
• Own annotation quality: set standards, review complex cases, ensure consistency.
• Translate engineering/product requirements into detailed annotation guidelines and workflows.
• Identify root causes of recurring quality issues across data, processes, and tooling.
• Design and manage quality control processes: audits, calibration, reviews.
• Monitor productivity, backlog, quality metrics, and team performance; suggest improvements.
• Coordinate with engineering to resolve data/tooling/workflow issues and propose enhancements.
• Continuously improve annotation methodologies, training materials, and documentation.
• Perform annotation and QA on new tasks and high-priority datasets when needed.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of annotation personnel.

Job description

The position is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of technical data annotation operations. It serves as the primary subject matter expert for annotation processes, ensuring that datasets meet quality standards and support the organization's robotics and machine learning initiatives. The role bridges operations and engineering by translating technical requirements into clear annotation guidelines, driving team performance, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality training data.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:

• Lead the daily operations of the annotation team, including workload allocation, coaching, training, and issue resolution.
• Serve as the primary technical resource for annotation activities and ensure the team understands both annotation requirements and underlying objectives.
• Own annotation quality by reviewing complex cases, resolving ambiguity, establishing standards, and driving consistency across datasets.
• Translate technical requirements from engineering and product teams into detailed annotation instructions, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
• Identify recurring quality issues and determine root causes related to data, processes, tooling, training, or execution.
• Design and manage quality control processes, including audits, calibration sessions, consistency checks, and reviewer workflows.
• Monitor productivity, backlog, quality metrics, and team performance, and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Coordinate with engineering teams to escape data, tooling, and workflow issues while recommending process enhancements.
• Continuously improve annotation methodologies, training materials, documentation, and operational procedures.
• Perform annotation and quality review activities for new tasks, complex cases, and high-priority datasets when necessary.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of annotation personnel as the team expands.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• You must have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• You must have experience in data annotation, quality assurance, robotics operations, computer vision, machine learning, or similar technical environments. Working knowledge of Python, SQL, spreadsheets, or data analysis tools used for workflow optimization and reporting is an advantage.
• You must have prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising technical teams or contributors.
• You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when addressing ambiguous or complex scenarios.
• You must have the ability to quickly learn technical concepts and communicate them effectively to others.
• You must have exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and accuracy.
• You must have strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• You must be comfortable collaborating directly with engineers and technical stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
• You may have working knowledge of Python, SQL, spreadsheets, or data analysis tools used for workflow optimization and reporting.
