Job summary

Merck Kgaa is seeking a Team Lead for General Ledger to guide a 10-15 member team in our Manila Shared Service Center. You will oversee daily GL operations, month-end close, and deliver accurate financial reporting while ensuring IFRS/GAAP compliance.

Strong leadership, SAP proficiency, and knowledge of ERP systems are essential for success. You will collaborate with local finance and global teams, drive process improvements, and support audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
• Master’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or CPA accreditation preferred.
• Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in General Ledger Accounting Operations, with demonstrated leadership experience.
• Profound knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS, GAAP, Tax).
• Experience working in a Shared Services Center environment preferred.
• Strong proficiency with SAP or other ERP systems required.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Willing to work on-site in BGC, Taguig.
• Amenable to work on a mid-shift/night-shift schedule (Regular Schedule: 3 PM-12 AM, month-end: 9 PM – 6 AM).
• Proven ability to manage and lead a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10-15 General Ledger Accountants.
• Oversee daily GL operations including month-end close activities.
• Prepare and deliver accurate financial data and reports to internal customers.
• Monitor and manage accounting processes, including postings, master data maintenance, and reconciliations.
• Review and approve complex journal entries and reconciliations.
• Oversee preparation of reports required by local finance and Group Accounting.
• Conduct financial analyses and support pre-audit tasks.
• Ensure IFRS, GAAP, and tax compliance.
• Handle escalations and resolve complex GL issues; provide ERP-related testing support.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices with stakeholders.

As the General Ledger Team Lead, you will be a pivotal leader within our Manila Shared Service Center. You will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of 10-15 General Ledger Accountants, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of all GL operations for assigned entities. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining financial integrity, driving process improvements, and fostering a collaborative environment.

Your Role:

Team Leadership and Management:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10-15 General Ledger Accountants.
• Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback and coaching.
• Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.

General Ledger Operations Oversight:

• Oversee the daily GL operations, including month-end close (MEC) activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established guidelines and policies.
• Ensure the preparation and delivery of accurate financial data and reports to internal customers.
• Monitor and manage accounting processes, general ledger postings, payroll and benefits (where applicable), master data maintenance, and account reconciliations.
• Review and approve complex journal entries and reconciliations.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• Oversee the preparation of reports required by local finance and Group Accounting.
• Conduct financial analysis and support pre-audit tasks.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and tax regulations.
• Escalation Management and Advanced Processing:
• Handle escalations and resolve complex GL issues.
• Perform advanced processing for sensitive GL activities.
• Provide support for user testing on ERP/GL-related tasks.

Process Improvement and Operational Excellence:

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance GL processes.
• Contribute to process excellence initiatives and operational performance reporting.
• Identify and implement best practices to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
• Stakeholder Collaboration:
• Collaborate effectively with local entity finance to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
• Communicate effectively with global teams.

Who You Are:
