Job summary

Meralco is seeking a Tax Compliance Staff (CPA) to manage internal tax, local taxes, permits, and licenses. The role supports the company’s tax processes and regulatory requirements in Pasig, with emphasis on accurate filing, remittance, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate holds a CPA, has experience in tax practice and accounting, and demonstrates strong Excel and general IT skills.

Qualifications

• Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Preferably with work experience in tax practice of an audit firm.
• Preferably with at least 1 year of experience in Accounting and Finance.
• Strong PC and business software skills, including advanced Excel.
• Willing to work onsite (Ortigas, Pasig).

Responsibilities

• Gathers and consolidates data to facilitate tax filing and remittance.
• Ensures compliance with real property tax, internal revenue, and LGU requirements.
• Prepares tax computations and schedules; processes payments to authorities.
• Monitors and coordinates regulatory reporting with BIR and relevant BRUs.
• Investigates and advises on tax issues and possible protests.

We are looking for a Tax Compliance Staff (CPA).

JOB SUMMARY

Facilitates the administration of internal revenue and local tax, permits and licenses; fully supportive of the Company’s tax processes/areas:

• Management of Tax Filing and Remittance Compliance
• Management of Real Property Tax Compliance
• Management of Internal Revenue Compliance
• Management of LGU Regulatory Compliance
• Management of Regulatory Requirements Compliance

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gathers and consolidates data to facilitate filing and remittance of taxes
• Checks adherence to government regulations and observance of applicable and possible deviations to benefit from certain tax savings
• Monitors accurate and timely compliance in the payment of real property taxes
• Prepares the computation of taxes
• Prepares schedule and handles the payment of real property taxes to ensure timely remittance and avoid penalty due to voluminous number of real properties located at various cities, municipalities and provinces
• Initiates research when in doubt as to whether as assessment issued by local governments against company properties is proper or not and recommends to management the feasibility of filing a protest
• Conducts research on applicable laws and jurisprudence and prepares draft of protest for approval and filing within the Local Board of Assessment Appeals
• Monitors accurate and timely compliance with reportorial requirements by the Company with the BIR
• Advises concerned BRU on any change or amendment
• Evaluates and analyzes whether tax rates being applied are correct and in accordance with the National Internal Revenue Code and the Local Government Code
• Examines the authenticity of requests for access to information and determines if reasonable and in accordance with law
• Coordinates with Power Billing and other BRU concerned regarding the request of BIR Revenue District Offices for information on certain taxpayers
• Monitors, evaluates and controls the progress of various activities and processes in securing permits and licenses
• Monitors and facilitates the activities and processes involved in securing subject permits and licenses
• Monitors, facilitates and systematizes accurate and timely compliance of the regulatory requirements of the Company, its subsidiaries and employees
• Participates in the development of annual team goals and action plans to fully support organization goals and priorities
• Implements tax processes in the team, identifies and recommends enhancements in the process and in the information system
