About the role

As a Logistics Specialist, you will play a vital role in the global supply chain team, overseeing both strategic and operational aspects of shipping. You’ll be responsible for managing container freight from sourcing to contract execution, ensuring alignment with global procurement strategies and compliance with all relevant standards. Your role will also involve coordinating break bulk shipments from contract finalization through to cargo discharge, while providing ongoing support to category managers through market intelligence, freight analysis, and performance tracking. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a global scale, collaborate across regions, and make a meaningful impact on the efficiency and success of international logistics operations.

What you will be doing

Defines and executes in line with the global standard:

  • Category Analysis and Planning: Strategy for sourcing and managing suppliers for freight forwarding and container shipping.
  • Sourcing
    • Source to Contract for Containers (nonbinding term sheet)
    • Source to Contract for Freight Forwarder (binding contract)
  • Demand & Compliance Management: Develop procedures for critical tasks.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Formalized supplier performance management process
    • KPI management
    • Adherence to company contract sign-off processes
  • Transactional Enquiries:
    • Internal quote management
    • Vessel post-fixture administration (appointment of surveyors, laytime calculations, budget vs. actual voyage analysis, invoice management, documentation instructions, voyage instructions)
  • Performance Management: Analyze the success of strategic initiatives.
  • Process and Systems:
    • Data collection for all shipping tasks
    • Knowledge management and retention
    • Systems review of freight forwarder capability
  • Market & Knowledge Management:
    • Freight market intelligence reporting
    • Benchmarking Orica against market information
What you will bring
  • Experience in Mining, Oil & Gas, Industrial, or other relevant B2B marketing industries.
  • A relevant degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in shipping, sourcing, or a combination of both.
  • Proven track record in a similar role within a comparable-sized organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Strong negotiation skills, business acumen, and immediate to advanced knowledge in MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
