Job Summary:
Permitting and utility interconnection for our solar and battery storage projects across Texas and California will be owned end to end by a Senior Solar and Battery Permitting and Interconnection Specialist. The ideal candidate has recent, hands-on experience moving projects from first submission through final approval and permission to operate (PTO), resolving corrections along the way and keeping every project status accurate. You will be the person our team relies on to know exactly where each project stands and what it takes to move it forward.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, submit, monitor, and follow up on permit and interconnection applications, revisions, correction responses, inspection requests, and closeout documentation, carrying each one through final approval and PTO
- Work utility and AHJ portals to pull correspondence, spot missing requirements, upload the right documents, track deadlines, and confirm every submission was received and accepted
- Pick up stalled or incomplete applications, study their full history, pinpoint the real blocker, and map out the steps to get them moving
- Turn utility requirements, plan review comments, and failed inspection notices into clear instructions for installers, electricians, designers, and project managers, stating the required correction, supporting photos or documents, responsible person, and deadline
- Confirm requested field work was finished, gather the needed evidence, send it to the right party, and verify the resulting status
- Phone and email utilities, permitting offices, inspectors, and internal teams to clarify requirements and settle issues
- Review permit packages, site plans, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, inspection records, and installation photos to catch missing or inconsistent information, and work with our design and field teams on corrections
- Work out the correct permitting and interconnection process for unfamiliar jurisdictions on your own
- Keep our project management system and project files current with each project's actual stage, last activity, blocker, next action, responsible person, deadline, and next follow-up date, with all approvals and correspondence saved to the project
- Report status precisely, clearly separating submitted, accepted, approved, inspected, and authorized to operate
Mandatory Skills:
- Recent, hands-on experience personally managing solar and battery permitting and utility interconnection in both Texas and California
- Proven track record of resolving corrections and progressing projects through final approval and permission to operate
- Direct experience working with Texas and California utilities such as Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E
- Demonstrated experience across multiple cities, counties, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), with the ability to work out the process for a new jurisdiction independently
- Confident navigation of utility interconnection and AHJ permitting portals
- Working knowledge of permit packages, site plans, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, inspection records, and installation photos
- Clear understanding of the difference between an application being submitted, accepted, approved, inspected, and authorized to operate
- Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English and confidence calling utilities, permitting offices, and inspectors
- Self-driven, exacting, and consistent when working solo
- Disciplined follow-through, treating a task as complete only once the outcome is verified
- Accurate and consistent project tracking and documentation habits
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience with most or all of the utilities listed above
- Familiarity with California's Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0) interconnection requirements
- Knowledge of interconnection processes for Texas utilities in the ERCOT market
- Working knowledge of NEC requirements as they apply to solar and battery storage installations
- Experience handling permitting requirements specific to battery energy storage systems
- Experience using project management or CRM systems to track permitting and interconnection pipelines
- Able to carry a high volume of active projects forward at once without a dip in quality
