Job summary

Hireflex Group is seeking a senior solar PV design professional for a fully remote role. You will own the design and tendering function end to end, from reviewing drawings and specs to sizing and pricing, and then delivering build-ready PV and BESS designs for installation teams.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with commercial-scale systems and battery design, strong AutoCAD skills, and proficiency with Helioscope or similar PV tools.

Qualifications

• Senior-level commercial-scale solar PV design experience (100 kW to MW-scale).
• Battery (BESS) design experience: sizing, inverter/PCS selection, DC/AC coupling and protection.
• Ability to work independently and own designs and tenders end-to-end.
• Excellent written English; you will draft documents for Australian builders.
• Strong AutoCAD skills plus a PV tool (Helioscope, PVsyst, PVsol or Aurora).
• Reliable home office and internet connection; ability to work hours overlapping AEST.

Responsibilities

• Tendering: read drawings/specs, size systems, price via playbook, draft submissions.

About the Client

Our client is a Sydney-based commercial and industrial solar, battery, EV-charging and electrical contractor that delivers projects across Australia. They are CEC Accredited, SAA Accredited and a Licensed Electrical Contractor, and their install team is 100% in-house, with no subcontractors.

They build rooftop systems from 50 kW up to nearly 2 MW for builders, EPCs and end clients. Recent work includes projects for national retailers, global manufacturers and major airport infrastructure. Their tender pipeline is growing fast, and they want one person to own design and estimating.

The Role

This is a full-time remote engineering role. You’ll run the client’s design and tendering function end to end with little oversight. It has two core parts:

• Tendering: turn incoming opportunities into priced, professional tender submissions. That means reading the drawings, sizing the system, pricing it from the company’s pricing playbook and writing the submission.
• Project design: once a job is won, produce the detailed, build-ready design the install team works from, including layouts, strings, SLDs, schedules and drawings.

What You’ll Do

Day to day (tendering):

• Review tender documents and electrical specs (EstimateOne, builders)
• Size solar PV and battery systems from drawings and specs
• Prepare material take-offs and pricing using the company’s pricing playbook ($/W, $/kWh)
• Draft submissions in company templates for the Director to review
• Track submissions, due dates and follow-ups

Once a job is won (design):

• Full PV design: layouts, strings and inverter selection
• SLDs, cable and conductor sizing, voltage drop and earthing
• Switchboard/PVDB schematics, string schedules and BOMs
• BESS design: sizing, PCS selection, protection and safety
• Design to AS/NZS and CEC guidelines (full training provided)

Who They’re Looking For

• Senior-level commercial-scale solar PV design experience (around 100 kW to MW-scale systems, not residential)
• Battery (BESS) design experience: sizing, inverter/PCS selection, DC/AC coupling and protection. Solar-only experience won’t be a fit.
• Ability to work on your own and own designs and tenders end to end
• Excellent written English, since you’ll draft documents sent to Australian builders
• Strong AutoCAD skills plus a PV tool (Helioscope, PVsyst, PVsol or Aurora)
• A reliable home office and internet connection, and the ability to work hours that overlap with AEST

Highly desirable:

• Design experience to Australian standards (AS/NZS 3000 / 5033 / 4777 / 5139) or CEC guidelines
• Previous offshore work for an Australian solar company
