Job summary

Ocean Technologies Group is looking for an experienced Software Tester to join their team in the Philippines. In this role, you will take ownership of testing activities, designing, implementing, and executing tests across various maritime software systems.

The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of experience in software testing, strong knowledge of REST APIs, and proficiency in SQL. You will collaborate with developers and product owners, ensuring software quality across the full delivery lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in software testing, preferably in an Agile environment.
• Proven experience in a software testing role with hands-on test case design and execution.
• Strong knowledge of testing techniques such as equivalence partitioning and exploratory testing.

Position: Software Tester

We are seeking an experienced Software Tester to take ownership of testing activities within the VCPM tribe. You will design, implement and execute tests across vessel navigation, route planning, weather data and maritime voyage management, driving quality through the full delivery lifecycle. You will work closely with developers, product owners and stakeholders to ensure our software meets functional and non‑functional requirements.

Technology Context

Our systems involve REST and real‑time APIs, geospatial data, vessel communication protocols, event‑driven architectures and cloud‑based data streaming. They are safety‑critical, so defects in navigation or weather data can have serious operational consequences. Rigorous API and integration testing is core to everything we do.

Your Voyage Ahead

• Design, write and execute comprehensive test cases based on requirements, user stories and risk analysis.
• Perform exploratory testing to uncover defects beyond scripted test coverage.
• Raise, triage and manage defects through to resolution, working closely with developers.
• Contribute to test planning activities including scope definition and effort estimation.
• Test integrations, data flows and system behaviour specific to VCPM workflows.
• Execute and validate REST API tests using tools such as Postman; verify request/response payloads, status codes and error handling.
• Participate in CI/CD pipeline processes, supporting shift‑left quality practices.
• Support junior testers through pairing, reviewing test cases and sharing knowledge.
• Maintain and improve existing regression suites, identifying candidates for automation.
• Contribute to sprint retrospectives with actionable quality observations.

Recommended to Bring on Board

• 3+ years of experience in software testing, preferably in an Agile environment.
• Proven experience in a software testing role with hands‑on test case design and execution.
• Strong knowledge of testing techniques such as equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis and exploratory testing.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
• Confidence in defect management, including root cause analysis and communication with development teams.
• SQL proficiency for test data setup, validation and database‑level verification.
• Solid understanding of REST API testing including HTTP methods, authentication and response validation.
• Experience with a test management tool (Jira, TestRail, Zephyr or similar).

Desirable Skills & Experience

• ISTQB Foundation Level certification.
• Experience with API automation, e.g. Postman collections, Newman or RestAssured.
• Exposure to performance or security testing.
• Basic scripting ability (Python, JavaScript or similar) for test data generation or automation support.
• Experience in the maritime, logistics or regulated industry domain.
