Job summary

Avaloq in the Philippines is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to drive Shift-Left automation for the Avaloq Banking Suite. You will collaborate with developers, release managers and stakeholders to deliver high-quality automation solutions using Java, REST APIs and microservices.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to work with leading financial institutions worldwide, with exposure to OpenShift, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on Java development experience with frameworks such as JEE, Spring, OSGi, Angular.
• Experience with REST APIs and message-based systems (XML, JSON).
• Strong teamwork and English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Debug complex issues and optimize performance through refactoring.

Your team

As a member of the DevOps and QA team, you will be part of a group of highly skilled, motivated and dynamic people that are responsible for a central part of the Avaloq Banking Suite. You will be part of the team responsible for automation and innovation of Shift‑Left QA for the Avaloq solution used by banks in the global market.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will work in close cooperation with Developers, Test Managers, Release Managers, and other key stakeholders with the objective to deliver high‑quality Shift‑Left automation solutions that meet customer needs and requirements. You will get the opportunity to work with technology stacks including Java, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Gradle, just to name a few.

Your tasks

• Develop high‑quality Java code and maintain robust frameworks and tools for Shift‑Left automation, utilizing Java and microservices with REST API for both new features and enhancements.
• Debug complex software issues and optimize application performance through targeted code improvements and systematic refactoring.
• Collaborate with product owners to understand and prioritize requirements, ensuring cohesive partnership with configuration specialists and fellow software engineers to meet team standards.
• Assume ownership and accountability for specific components of the frameworks and tools.
• Engage in collaborative efforts with development teams working on applications and microservices.
• Operate within an agile environment, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and methodologies.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience in Java development and associated frameworks (e.g. JEE, Spring, OSGi, Angular).
• Experience with REST APIs and message‑based systems (e.g. XML, JSON).
• Highly motivated, collaborative team player who likes to analyze and solve complex challenges.
• Comfortable with communicating with stakeholders and collaborating with other teams.
• Strong written and spoken English language skills.

You will get extra points for the following

• Experience with Avaloq Banking System is a BIG plus.
• Experience in automation tools like Cypress, Selenium, Appium, Jest.
• Experience with Performance testing tools (Gatling, LoadRunner, JMeter).
• Knowledge in Oracle database architecture.
• Experience in integrating automated tests in CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud architecture concepts (e.g. Operators, Microservices, Containers).
• Experience with cloud platforms like Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure.
• Knowledge and practical experience in using open‑source libraries and tools within development projects.
• Excitement about shaping the future of finance through clean code and smart solutions.
