Role Summary

The Business Banking Head is accountable for overseeing the expansion and effective management of the bank’s SME lending portfolio. This role entails driving client acquisition efforts, strengthening existing client relationships, enhancing credit quality, and leading initiatives aimed at business growth. It plays a vital part in advancing the bank’s strategic objective of increasing its market share in the SME sector, while upholding strong credit discipline and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Client Acquisition and Market Expansion

  • Drive new business development by targeting Business Line and Corporate clients.

  • Leverage channels such as dealer financing programs, community marketing, product briefings with regional teams, and participation in relevant industry events.

  • Maintain strong ties with loan syndicators and actively engage in outbound lead generation through telemarketing.

2. Portfolio and Relationship Management

  • Oversee and grow a portfolio of SME clients with credit lines, ensuring strong relationship management.

  • Foster long-term client loyalty through consistent engagement and by identifying cross-selling opportunities.

3. Credit Oversight and Risk Management

  • Partner with credit and risk units to strengthen the quality of the loan portfolio.

  • Deploy sound risk mitigation strategies while enabling sustainable portfolio growth.

4. Marketing Intelligence and Performance Reporting

  • Generate and submit regular reports on client acquisition efforts, portfolio health, and market insights to guide strategic decisions.

5. Credit Process Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal credit functions (e.g., RRMD, CRMD) to ensure loan processing remains within agreed service level timelines.

  • Coordinate with clients for additional documentation, and actively track appraisals and credit investigations to avoid delays.

  • Liaise with Legal and Credit Control units to ensure timely disbursement of approved credit lines, subject to full compliance.

6. Special Lending Transactions

  • Administer accommodation and exception-based transactions, ensuring all approvals and documentation are secured.

7. Client Issue Resolution

  • Lead efforts to resolve customer concerns with urgency and professionalism, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently without compromising service quality.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field (Master’s degree is a plus).

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in business banking, including leadership roles.

  • Demonstrated success in building client relationships, growing portfolios, and credit oversight.

  • Deep understanding of credit policies, risk frameworks, and banking regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Proficient in CRM platforms and MS Office tools.
