Overview
A Sewing Operator is responsible for operating industrial sewing machines to assemble or finish garments or textile products. This role involves working with fabrics and materials to produce quality products in a timely and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines (e.g., flatbed, overlock, or serger machines) to sew fabrics according to specifications.
- Adjust machine settings for different fabric types, stitch patterns, and garment styles.
- Ensure the machine is properly set up and maintained for smooth operation.
- Follow production schedules and work to meet daily or weekly production targets.
- Inspect sewn items for defects, ensuring they meet quality standards (e.g., checking stitching, seams, and fabric alignment).
- Make necessary adjustments to ensure the final product meets design specifications and company standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to keep them in good working condition.
- Work with different types of fabrics and materials, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage.
- Measure and cut fabric according to pattern templates or production requirements.
- Ensure proper threading and tension on the sewing machine.
Educational Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (some employers may require additional certification in textile or garment manufacturing).
- Training or certification in sewing machine operation is a plus.
Experience
- Previous experience as a sewing operator or in a similar manufacturing role (typically in garment, textile, or upholstery industries).
- Experience with various types of industrial sewing machines.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure high-quality output.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
