Job summary

Teamified is hiring a senior backend engineer to own core services and contribute to scalable, AI-assisted engineering workflows. You will ship production code in a fast-moving team based in Melbourne, Australia, collaborating with engineering and product leaders to build a modern fintech/remote-work platform.

You'll work on payments, onboarding, and architecture improvements, while mentoring peers and ensuring robust test coverage.

Qualifications

• 6+ years backend engineering, with production Django applications.
• Strong Django ORM, migrations, permissions, DRF and async/background tasks.
• Relational data modeling with PostgreSQL.
• Experience shipping on cloud infrastructure with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and security best practices.
• Ownership from design to production and accountability.
• Clear written and verbal communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and own backend services in Django and DRF powering web portal, mobile app and white-label environments.
• Work on the payments core: card issuing/lifecycle, spend controls, transactions, webhooks.
• Build and harden features and integrate workflow enhancements across the platform.
• Leverage AI tooling and ship AI-powered product features.
• Lead technical design: write design docs/ADRs, run decomposition sessions, simplify architecture.

About Our Client

Our client is an Australian FinTech company that provides a platform for business credit cards and spend management. In essence,they offer a modern alternative to traditional corporate cards, designed to simplify spending for businesses, save time and money on financial administration, and give businesses greater control and visibility over their expenses. Their key services include providing Mastercard-powered credit cards to businesses, which can be issued to employees, and a spend management platform that allows businesses to track spending in real-time, capture receipts, categorize expenses, and automate reconciliation with accounting software. Our client also enables employees to use a mobile app to upload receipts and add notes, streamlining the expense reporting process. Notably, our client does not charge any foreign transaction fee mark-ups and integrates with popular accounting software like Xero and SAP Concur. Additionally, our client provides controls and oversight features, allowing businesses to set spending limits, and lock or freeze cards. Our client's users can also earn Velocity Points on eligible spending.

About the Role

This is a hands-on senior role in a small team. You'll ship production code in your first week, then help shape how we build cleaner architecture, real test coverage, safer deployments and AI-assisted engineering workflows. You'll work closely with our Head of Engineering and Product, and be based in Melbourne Australia.

We believe working closely with stakeholders and customers is key to engineering & product success so our client's engineering team works closely alongside the commercial and product teams, to build a ground breaking technology platform.

What you'll do day-to-day

• Design, build and own backend services in Django and Django REST Framework that power our web portal, mobile app and white-label environments.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend engineering, with several years building and running production Django applications.
• Deep Django knowledge including the ORM, migrations, permissions, DRF and async/background task patterns.
• Strong relational data modelling and PostgreSQL skills.
• A testing mindset: you write test suites as a matter of course and know how to bring testing patterns and the right level of coverage to an existing codebase.
• Experience shipping on cloud infrastructure with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Sound security instincts, including authentication and authorisation with an identity provider such as Auth0 or Okta.
• Ownership: you drive work from design doc to production and stay accountable for it once live.
• Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working directly with Product and non-technical stakeholders.
