The Japan Research Institute, Limited, Philippine Branch is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, enhance, and maintain mobile applications for Android and iOS.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality mobile solutions while supporting the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through deployment and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Possesses a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any related field.
• Strong hands-on mobile development experience for Android and/or iOS.
• Experience with modern mobile stacks and test automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance native mobile applications for Android and iOS.
• Analyze requirements and translate into scalable, maintainable mobile solutions.
• Develop and integrate APIs and cloud services to support mobile app functionality.
• Apply best practices including code reviews, unit testing, TDD, CI/CD, and secure coding.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Job description

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining mobile applications for Android and/or iOS platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality mobile solutions while supporting the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through deployment and maintenance.

Other Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance native mobile applications using Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) and/or iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) technologies.
• Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, maintainable, and high-performing mobile solutions.
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-based services to support mobile application functionality.
• Apply software engineering best practices including code reviews, unit testing, test-driven development (TDD), continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), and secure coding standards.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, performance optimization, and defect resolution for production and non-production environments.
• Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge-sharing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging mobile development technologies and recommend solutions that improve development efficiency, application quality, and user experience.
• Support application deployment, monitoring, and operational activities in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Collaborate with onshore teams and other stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

Job Specification:

• Possesses a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any related field.
• Minimum 6 years of hands-on software development experience with strong expertise in mobile application development.
• Strong proficiency in native mobile application development using Android and/or iOS technologies.
• Android development using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose; or iOS development using Swift and SwiftUI.
• Solid understanding of Git-based source control and code review processes.
• Good understanding of application architecture patterns, including MVVM.
• Experience in unit testing, test automation, and software quality assurance practices.
• Experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and TDD.
• Strong knowledge of mobile application performance optimization, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development and deployment practices.
• Strong problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
