Job summary

Xebia is seeking a Senior Scala Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team working on scalable, reliable systems using Scala and functional programming.

You will contribute to architecture discussions, shape technical decisions, and help maintain engineering standards while delivering high-quality software in a fully remote setup. Extensive backend experience and strong English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Scala and functional programming paradigms.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful web APIs in enterprise environments.
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, including source control, CI/CD, and testing approaches.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, including high-throughput systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services and technologies (compute, databases, storage, containers, serverless, especially S3 and EKS).
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven or asynchronous architectures.
• Ability to evaluate engineering trade-offs against business requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

About the Role

As a Senior Scala Engineer at Xebia, you will join a highly collaborative engineering environment focused on building performant, scalable, and reliable solutions using Scala and functional programming principles.

You will work on complex distributed systems, contributing to their architecture, design, and development while helping solve challenging technical problems at scale. Beyond hands-on engineering, you will participate in high-level architecture discussions, contribute to technical decision-making, and help maintain strong engineering standards across the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Scala and functional programming paradigms.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful web APIs in enterprise environments.
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, including source control, CI/CD, and different testing approaches.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, including experience supporting high-throughput systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services and technologies related to compute, databases, storage, containers, and serverless architectures, specially AWS S3 and EKS.
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven or asynchronous architectures.
• Ability to evaluate engineering trade-offs against business requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Salary Range: €50,000 – €65,000 gross per year, depending on experience, skills, and the outcome of the technical assessment process.
