Position Overview

The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for driving quality across the software development lifecycle through a strong focus on test automation, API validation, quality engineering practices, and continuous delivery. This role partners closely with Engineering, Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams to establish testing strategies, improve automation coverage, identify quality risks early, and enable rapid, reliable releases. The Senior QE serves as a quality advocate and technical leader, helping teams adopt scalable automation frameworks, shift-left testing practices, and data-driven quality standards. The role is expected to operate independently, influence engineering decisions, and mentor team members on quality engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Test Leadership
  • Define and execute comprehensive quality strategies aligned with product and engineering objectives.
  • Lead test planning activities and establish risk-based testing approaches across initiatives.
  • Review requirements, architectures, and designs to identify quality risks and testability concerns early.
  • Establish quality gates, standards, and automation objectives for development teams.
  • Provide technical leadership on quality engineering practices across multiple products or services.
  • Mentor Quality Engineers and development teams on automation, testing methodologies, and quality best practices.
API & Service-Level Testing
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust API and service-level automation frameworks.
  • Validate REST, GraphQL, and microservice-based architectures through automated testing.
  • Create automated tests covering functional, integration, contract, regression, and negative testing scenarios.
  • Validate authentication, authorization, data integrity, error handling, and security controls across services.
  • Perform data validation through API responses, databases, queues, and downstream integrations.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve API testability and observability.
Test Automation Engineering
  • Design and maintain scalable automation frameworks for UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Develop reusable automation libraries, utilities, and test data management solutions.
  • Drive automation-first testing approaches, minimizing reliance on manual regression testing.
  • Continuously improve automation reliability, execution speed, and maintainability.
  • Measure automation effectiveness using coverage, execution, defect detection, and quality metrics.
  • Ensure automated tests are integrated into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous delivery goals.
System Integration & End-to-End Testing
  • Validate complex workflows across distributed systems, microservices, and third-party integrations.
  • Design test strategies for highly integrated cloud-based applications.
  • Conduct integration and system testing to ensure end-to-end business process validation.
  • Identify risks associated with cross-system dependencies and recommend mitigation strategies.
Performance, Reliability & Security Testing
  • Define and execute performance, scalability, and reliability testing approaches.
  • Analyze application behaviour under load and identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Support security testing initiatives by validating authentication, authorization, and API security controls.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to improve application resilience and production readiness.
DevOps & Continuous Quality
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
  • Ensure quality gates are embedded within deployment pipelines.
  • Leverage test execution analytics and quality metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve environment stability, test data availability, and deployment validation.
  • Support quality practices within cloud-native and containerized environments.
Release Quality & Production Support
  • Evaluate release readiness using risk assessments, automation results, and quality metrics.
  • Participate in production incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Develop monitoring and validation strategies to ensure quality after deployment.
  • Analyze defect trends and recommend preventative quality improvements.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Software Testing, or Test Automation.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks.
  • Advanced experience in API testing and automation using tools such as Postman, Rest Assured, Playwright, Karate, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong programming/scripting experience with languages such as Java, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Experience testing distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, SDLC, Agile, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.
  • Experience with SQL and database validation techniques.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to independently drive quality initiatives and influence engineering teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments.
  • Experience with containerized platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience implementing contract testing and service virtualization.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or k6.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms (Application Insights, Datadog, Splunk, Grafana).
  • Experience in regulated, enterprise, or high‑availability environments.
  • ISTQB Advanced, CSTE, or equivalent certification.
