Job summary

eBay is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to build and operate platforms, services, data pipelines, and MLOps that bring cutting-edge AI models into production at scale. You will craft data pipelines, train and serve models, and deliver personalized experiences to millions of users.

Qualifications

• MS in Computer Science or related area with 7+ years of relevant work experience (or BS/BA with 9+ years) in ML/AI/Data Engineering.
• Expertise in production engineering practices and software development in an OO language (Scala, Java, Python).
• Extensive experience in big data distributed processing frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Flink).
• Production experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and serving libraries (TensorFlow Serving, TorchServe, NVIDIA Triton).
• Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines for ML models; proficient with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with cloud services and data pipelines (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Designing scalable distributed systems and exposing functionality via RESTful/gRPC APIs.
• Understanding live 24/7 ML environments: monitoring, alerting, incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate scalable backend and ML systems for sponsored experiences, ranking, retrieval, and personalization.
• Own the MLOps pipelines for CI/CD, training, validation, and monitoring of production models.
• Engineer robust data pipelines using big data technologies for model training and feature engineering.
• Implement and optimize traditional ML and Generative AI models for low-latency serving and high throughput.
• Collaborate with researchers to turn prototypes into production-ready code.
• Promote software engineering best practices within the ML team (code reviews, testing, documentation).
• Monitor system performance, resolve production issues, and improve reliability and efficiency.
• Mentor teammates through code reviews, architecture design, and pair programming.
