Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience with Java, SQL, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS.
• Experience with scalable, high-availability back-end database technologies, primarily SQL Server.
• Experience building microservices with Spring Boot and building/calling APIs.
• Experience with non-relational databases such as Memcached, MongoDB, or Redis is a plus.
• Strong JavaScript back-end development experience with Angular, Node, or similar frameworks.
• Front-end development experience with HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, jQuery, accessibility, and responsive layouts.
• UI/UX development experience.
• Experience with insurance/reinsurance systems and data.
• Strong understanding of server-side software, scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Understanding of the OSI model, networking, operating-system layers, and services.
• Understanding of continuous delivery tools such as Chef, Puppet, and Salt.
• Understanding of continuous integration and deployment tools such as Octopus Deploy and Jenkins.
• Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS, Windows, IIS, Linux, Tomcat, JBoss, Visio, T-SQL, SSIS, and shell scripting
• Willingness to work with unfamiliar code and new technology, with attention to detail
• Excellent English speaking, listening, writing, and reading ability
• Ability to explain and simplify technology for non-technical people
• Advanced knowledge of specialized software engineering best practices, methods, and techniques
• Extensive experience developing software applications on the assigned technology platform
• Extensive knowledge of source code change management and related tools
• Knowledge and experience with Agile software development principles, processes, and tools
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Strong customer service skills for end-user/business-owner systems support
• Knowledge of production support processes, including incident and problem management
• Knowledge of reporting tools such as Power BI and SSRS
• At least 3–5 years of Java software development experience

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain software solutions supporting business operations
• Perform analysis, design, coding, debugging, testing, and software application support
• Develop new applications and systems, enhance or upgrade existing systems, and provide production support
• Capture stakeholder requests and system specifications and translate them into design specifications, source code, test scripts, and test results
• Coordinate with software architects and Software Engineer IVs to align engineering work with enterprise architecture principles and development best practices
• Complete application design, coding, code review, and testing as part of Agile teams
• Communicate project status to the Agile team and Agile Program Manager
• Suggest effective and efficient approaches for project and program objectives
• Track and communicate engineering risks and devise mitigation methods
• Coordinate interdependencies and resolve issues across project and program areas
• Support business units with in-depth user questions and issues following production support processes and SLAs
• Maintain knowledge of new technology, software engineering standards, practices, and tools
• Provide input on product roadmaps and high-level estimates
• Collaborate with IT management on documentation and engineering artifact standards, guidelines, processes, and templates
