Job description

Your files become physical objects in front of an audience. That is a different job from designing for a screen.

Our client works at the intersection of live events, branding and experiential delivery, producing branding and signage, custom fabrication and on-site event execution for major properties in sports and entertainment. The work is physical and it is dated: artwork becomes a printed object on a wall, a stage or a concourse, and it either arrives right or it arrives wrong in front of an audience.

This is a production design seat, not a screen design seat. You take creative from concept through to production-ready artwork for small- and large-format branding and signage, you build 2D elements and textures for the render team to place into 3D layouts, and you prepare, correct and troubleshoot files so they meet real print specifications: bleeds, colour profiles, resolution at scale, print marks, cut paths.

You will also build templates for fabricated builds, pull dimensions out of SketchUp, Fusion or CAD drawings, and give and take creative direction across project managers, account teams, producers and other designers. If you have spent your career designing for screens, this will be a harder job than it looks. If you have sent files to a large-format printer and had them come back, you already know exactly what this role is.

Key Responsibilities
Graphic Design and Event Branding
  • Create graphic design concepts and individual components for events and projects, including small- and large-format branding and signage
  • Create 2D elements, designs and textures for the design team to incorporate into 3D renderings and space layouts
  • Create high-quality designs while adhering to the brand objectives and guidelines provided by clients
  • Develop original creative concepts for well-established brands when requested
Production Artwork and Prepress
  • Set up files for print production according to established processes and standards, including required print marks and bleed lines
  • Review and correct customer-provided artwork for errors related to fonts, images, resolution, colour profiles and production readiness
  • Prepare, adjust and troubleshoot artwork so files meet technical print-production specifications
Templates and Technical Design Support
  • Create templates for assets and fabricated builds that are provided to clients for artwork development
  • Measure fabricated elements or physical assets to create accurate design templates
  • Interpret and pull dimensions from 3D programs such as SketchUp or Fusion, as well as from CAD drawings
Project and Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with project managers to create custom mockups and designs based on client requests and specifications
  • Collaborate with account teams, producers, project managers, designers and production teams to keep output high-quality and efficient
  • Provide creative direction and feedback to project managers, clients and other graphic designers as appropriate
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously with overlapping due dates
Sales and Marketing Design Support
  • Create templates and design elements for client business proposals and marketing materials
  • Complete full proposal layouts when requested
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional graphic design experience
  • Demonstrated experience creating production-ready artwork for print and large-format applications
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat
  • Experience with print production and large-scale environments
  • A clear understanding of scale, materials and production constraints
  • Strong knowledge and application of graphic design principles
  • The ability to use and read a tape measure accurately, and to work comfortably in feet and inches
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to work quickly under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently on large projects and collaboratively within a team
  • The ability to take direction from project managers, clients and creative services team members
  • The ability to give creative direction and constructive feedback to project managers, clients and other designers
  • The ability to adhere to brand guidelines while still developing original creative concepts
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple time zones and cross-culturally
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting live events, experiential environments, signage, large-format graphics or a related production environment
  • Experience with 3D design software such as SketchUp or Fusion
  • Experience reading CAD drawings
  • Experience building full proposal or pitch layouts
Tools & Software
  • Adobe Illustrator — primary, for large-format artwork, templates and cut paths
  • Adobe Photoshop — image preparation and texture work
  • Adobe InDesign — proposal and marketing layouts
  • Adobe Acrobat — preflight and print-ready PDF checking
  • SketchUp, Fusion or CAD — for pulling dimensions (preferred)
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • You have sent files to a large-format printer and you know what comes back when the bleed is wrong
  • You build at scale without being told to, and you know what your scale factor does to resolution
  • You can look at a client-supplied logo and say plainly that it will not work, then ask for the right file
  • You know that a 300 dpi rule learned for brochures is the wrong rule for a twenty-foot banner
  • You can design something interesting inside a brand book that gives you two colours and one typeface
  • You take a rejection, ask one clarifying question, and come back with the right version rather than a defence
  • You will tell a project manager that something is going to print wrong, even when it is easier not to
What We Offer
  • $8/hour
  • Full-time role We hire for the long haul, so a steady track record of staying and growing always moves you up our list.
