Job summary

Umpisa Inc. in Metro Manila is seeking an experienced full-stack software engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable features using React on the frontend and NestJS on the backend. You will architect APIs, own features end-to-end, and collaborate with product and design teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to engineering best practices, and participate in KT sessions for Singapore in October and Manila from November to December, with a hybrid work setup and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with React and NestJS/Node.js.
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript and API design (REST/GraphQL).
• Experience with cloud platforms, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven mentoring or leadership of engineers and effective collaboration with teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using React frontend and NestJS backend.

Work Set-up:

• Hybrid set-up
• October: On-site training in Singapore (travel provision included).
• November – December: Continuation of training on-site in Manila.
• Standard work arrangement resumes thereafter, in line with the assigned project’s requirements.

Requirements, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using React on the frontend and NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) on the backend
• Architect scalable, well-tested APIs and services, and contribute to our data modeling and system design
• Own features from technical design through deployment and monitoring in production
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested TypeScript code and participate in code reviews
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, technical debt, and scalability challenges
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and help raise the technical bar across the team
• Contribute to engineering best practices, tooling, and CI/CD processes

• Familiarity and relevant experience with the insurance industry

• Conduct Knowledge Transfer (KT) sessions and training for team members and stakeholders, including during the Singapore (October) and Manila (November–December) training engagements.
• Develop and deliver training materials, guides, and documentation to support upskilling and smooth knowledge handover.

• 5+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on experience with React (hooks, state management, component architecture)
• Strong hands-on experience with NestJS or a similar Node.js framework (Express, Fastify)
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript, with a solid grasp of type-safe design across frontend and backend
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
• Solid understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or similar)
• Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
• Experience with microservices architecture and message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.)
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal project portfolio
• Prior experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and driving successful project outcomes.
• Prior experience conducting Knowledge Transfer (KT) sessions, training, or facilitation for teams and/or clients is highly preferred.
• Willingness and availability to travel to Singapore for training in October, and to continue training in Manila from November to December.
