Job summary

Manulife is seeking a Finance FP&A professional to deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial data and analysis for Global Wealth and Asset Management. You will consolidate inputs from multiple stakeholders and lead Canada Wealth forecasting, while enhancing reporting processes.

You will work with North America stakeholders and MBPS FP&A teammates in a hybrid setup, leveraging Power BI, Power Apps, and Anaplan to provide value-added insights and drive planning accuracy.

Qualifications

  • University graduate in Accounting/Finance or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Experience 4+ years in finance; wealth and asset management experience is a plus.
  • Strong MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills.
  • Power BI, Power Apps, and Anaplan knowledge advantageous.
  • Solid accounting skills with IFRS knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate, analyze, and synthesize financial and non-financial data from stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reports, dashboards, and presentations for GWAM FP&A stakeholders.
  • Lead forecasting for Canada Wealth and related planning activities.
  • Improve reporting processes and templates for consistency and efficiency.

Background

Manulife’s Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) businesses operate across our global footprint in the US, Canada and Asia. They include our Retail (Manulife Investments, John Hancock Investments, and Asian mutual fund businesses), Retirement (Retirement Plan Services, Group Retirement Solutions, and Asian pension businesses), and Institutional (Manulife Asset Management) businesses. One of Manulife’s key strategic themes is to build and integrate its global wealth and asset management businesses. Manulife’s Investment Division has two major businesses – management of the General Fund investments and Manulife Asset Management (MAM), a leading global third party asset management business. The invested assets are comprised of a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, power and infrastructure, oil and gas, timberland and farmland properties.

Summary

The position is accountable for providing accurate, timely, and relevant monthly, quarterly and annual financial data production, reporting, analysis, planning and forecasting to different stakeholders of the Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) Finance Financial Planning & Analysis. Will locally report to MBPS FP&A Team Manager and provide support to Stakeholders located in North America.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Actively involved with consolidating, analyzing, and synthesizing large amount of financial and non-financial information from various stakeholders.
  • Prepares high-quality monthly and quarterly reports, dashboards and presentations in a timely and organized fashion catered to the needs of the different stakeholders of Global WAM Finance - Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • Prepares Monthly/Quarterly Management Decks, Canada Wealth Sales Report, Canada Wealth Earnings reports, bridges, forecast and planning.
  • Leads the forecasting activities of Canada Wealth business unit.
  • Prepares and maintains templates of report packages, highlight key issues, and actively look for resolution.
  • Improves and re-engineers reporting processes and deliverables to create consistency and efficiency during month-end and quarter-end cycles.
  • Supports the annual consolidated planning process, including investigation of trends, model projections, sensitivities, metrics and preparation of presentation decks.
  • Initiates improvements by exploring, identifying, and implementing reporting, analysis, and process solutions.
  • Works closely with the North America Wealth business unit, Stakeholders and MBPS FP&A teammates to ensure a smooth reporting and planning process, assisting in ad hoc requests as needed.
  • Participates in team cross-training to establish back-up and improvement of processes handled.
  • Trains new resources within the team and in conducting quality checks on the team’s work in certain circumstances.
Qualifications
  • University graduate in Accounting/Finance, professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a finance role, Wealth and Asset Management industry experience an asset Experience in participating or spearheading in automating processes is a plus.
  • Strong MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills; ability to succinctly engage with business partners and team members.
  • Power BI knowledge, Power Apps and Anaplan knowledge are advantage skills.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with a solid understanding of the business environment and financial reporting structure to provide value-added analysis.
  • Knowledge of IFRS tools (SmartView-Essbase, Lawson).
  • Knows how to navigate advance Finance tools like Anaplan and Power BI.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast paced, high-performing and collaborative team environment while managing multiple, constantly changing priorities and ad-hoc requests.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvements and a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to identify and investigate complex issues and recommend actionable solutions.
