Job summary

Sureste Properties Inc. is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to oversee day-to-day administration, capacity planning, and performance optimization of enterprise database systems in a 24/7 environment in the Manila area.

The role covers Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, and MS SQL Server, ensuring secure, highly available, and resilient databases for critical gaming and business applications. You will escalate and resolve incidents while driving improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing large-scale database environments in 24/7 operations.
• Experience with infrastructure rollouts, upgrades, and decommissioning of database environments.
• Proven migration and upgrade experience for major databases.
• Experience implementing high-availability, BC/DR solutions.
• Experience in mission-critical production environments, preferably gaming or hospitality.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL HA setups.
• Knowledge of cloud database services across GCP, AWS, and Azure.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day administration, capacity planning, performance optimization, incident resolution, and overall support of enterprise database systems in a 24/7 environment.

The role serves as a key escalation point for critical core gaming systems and database-related outages, providing technical support, monitoring, and troubleshooting across IT projects and business applications utilizing Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server. The position ensures database environments are secure, highly available, resilient, and optimized to support reliable business operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up, administer, maintain, and monitor high-availability database environments.

• Work closely with Production Support teams in establishing test environments, reviewing test plans and test cases, and investigating technical issues.

• Perform capacity planning for database servers and related hardware resources.

• Ensure database and server incidents are resolved within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

• Identify and implement process, technology, and system improvements.

• Collaborate with Network and Infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with enterprise security policies and standards.

• Develop, implement, and monitor database backup and recovery strategies.

• Manage database server patching and maintenance.

• Monitor system and database logs and perform root cause analysis (RCA) for errors, incidents, and performance issues.

• Provide technical support and escalation for critical database-related incidents and production outages.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• More than 5 years of professional experience managing large-scale database environments supporting hundreds of servers in a 24/24 operations environment.

• Proven experience in infrastructure rollouts, upgrades, administration, and decommissioning involving database environments.

• Demonstrated experience in database migration and upgrades to newer versions.

• Proven experience implementing and managing high-availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery solutions.

• Experience supporting mission-critical production environments, preferably within gaming, hospitality, or other high-availability industries.

• Strong and proven expertise in:

  • Microsoft SQL Server – Always On Availability Groups

  • MySQL – InnoDB Cluster, Master-Slave Replication

  • Oracle – RAC, Data Guard

  • PostgreSQL – PostgreSQL High Availability

• Strong experience in database performance monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, and index tuning.

• Experience with DB2 and MongoDB is an advantage.

• Experience with Cloud Database technologies and services across GCP, AWS, and Azure.

• Strong knowledge of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) configuration, monitoring, backup, and recovery procedures.

• Working knowledge of Data Warehousing, Stored Procedure optimization, SQL Server optimization, and storage performance optimization, including RAID and SAN environments.

• Experience with virtualization technologies is preferred.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, 24/7 production environment and respond to critical incidents.
