Job summary

Penbrothers is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Manila-based offshore team, building scalable data pipelines and real-time processing using Databricks, Airflow, Kafka, and lakehouse patterns. You will collaborate with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders in Manila and Malta to deliver reliable data products in a hybrid work setup (2 days onsite in Mandaluyong).

Day shift 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Philippine time, contributing to data modeling, APIs, testing, and observability while embracing

Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines using Databricks and Apache Airflow.
• Hands-on experience with modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake).
• Experience with streaming and real-time data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable datapipelines integrating multiple internal and external datasources.
• Develop and maintain real-time and batch data processing solutions using Databricks, Spark, Kafka, and Airflow.
• Develop, maintain, and extend data models, tests, and documentation for the data transformation layer.
• Implement and maintain data integrations with third-party platforms.
• Support data quality, integrity, and reliability through validation and monitoring frameworks.
• Contribute to data models across multiple business domains under guidance of Team Lead.
• Build and maintain data services and APIs for internal/external consumption.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve production issues; participate in on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end data and marketing solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and follow engineering best practices for testing and deployment.
• Contribute to agile ceremonies and continuously improve practices.

About the Role

We are looking for Data Engineers to join our engineering team as part of our new Manila based offshore team and help build and maintain scalable, high-performance data solutions.

In this role, you will work on data pipelines and integrations that power multiple business domains, including gaming, sportsbook, payments, and marketing. You will operate within a modern, cloud-based ecosystem, leveraging both batch and real-time data processing technologies, with Databricks at the core of our data platform.

Working under the guidance of the Manila Team Lead, you will collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders in both Manila and Malta to deliver reliable, high-quality data products.

Work Set-up: Hybrid (2x a week onsite in Mandaluyong)

Work Schedule: Day Shift - 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Philippine time

What You'll Do (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Build and maintain scalabledatapipelines integrating multiple internal and externaldatasources.
• Develop and maintain real-time and batch data processing solutions using modern data technologies including Databricks, Spark, Kafka, and Airflow.
• Develop, maintain, and extend data models, tests, and documentation for our data transformation layer within our data platform.
• Implement and maintaindataintegrations with third-party platforms (e.g. CRM, marketing, financial systems).
• Supportdataquality, integrity, and reliability through validation, reconciliation, and monitoring frameworks.
• Contribute todatamodels across multiple business domains, under the guidance of the Team Lead.
• Build and maintaindataservices and APIs for internal and externaldataconsumption.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, participating in on-call support as part of the team rota.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, BI, product, infrastructure) to deliver end-to-enddataand marketing solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and followengineeringbest practices for testing and deployment.
• Contribute to agile ceremonies and continuously improve engineering practices within the team.

What You Bring (Skills, Qualifications or Experience)

• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines using technologies such as Databricks and Apache Airflow.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks or similar modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake) is highly desirable.
• Experience with streaming and real-time data technologies such as Apache Kafka, Spark, or Flink (adjacent experience with technologies like RabbitMQ/Data Streaming philosophy is welcome).
• Proficiency in Python and/or Java, with solid softwareengineeringfundamentals.
• Good knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational, columnar, or NoSQL databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB).
• Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with moderndataarchitectures, includingdatalakes and lakehouse patterns.
• Datamodelling skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience working with APIs anddataexposure patterns (e.g. REST services).
• Awareness ofdataquality, monitoring, and observability practices.
• Experience working in Agile environments and contributing to iterative delivery.

Nice to Have

• Experience with, or willingness to adopt, AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude).
• Experience working with Marketingdatadomains (campaigns, offers, rewards, customer segmentation).
• Industry experience in gaming or gambling is beneficial but not required.
