Job summary

Agoda is seeking a VBA Automation Specialist to design, develop, and maintain automation solutions for Finance Operations. You will build robust tools and workflows using Excel, VBA, MS Access, SQL, Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps, driving scalability and stronger controls across financial processes.

You will collaborate with Finance teams to understand requirements, engineer high-volume automations, and document solutions with strong testing and auditability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 5+ years of automation development experience (VBA/Excel-based engineering, Power Automate, Power Apps).
• Experience developing automations for Finance operations is preferred.
• Experience in tech or e-commerce environments is a plus.
• Certifications or training in automation or analytics are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain automation solutions using Advanced Excel, Macro/VBA, MS Access, SQL, Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps.
• Partner with Finance operations teams to understand process requirements and engineer automations for high-volume workflows.
• Develop data models and logic with Excel, Access, and SQL; optimize tools for performance and auditability.
• Build workflow-based solutions using Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps to reduce manual handoffs and improve controls.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, change control, testing evidence, and user guidance.
• Troubleshoot defects, resolve production issues, and propose improvements to automation components.

The Opportunity:

Agoda’s Finance Operations Excellence is seeking a VBA Automation Specialist to serve as a hands‑on technical expert focused on designing, developing, and maintaining automation solutions for finance operations. You will play a key role in building robust tools and workflow automations, modernizing manual processes, and enabling a more scalable and controlled operating model across Finance.

Key Responsibilities:

Automation Architecture & Development:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain automation solutions using Advanced Excel, Macro/VBA, MS Access, SQL, Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps.
• Build reliable, scalable, and well‑structured solutions with a strong focus on maintainability, performance, control, and user usability.

Finance Operations Solution Engineering:

• Partner with Finance operations teams to understand process requirements, identify technical solution options
• Engineer automations for high-volume and control-sensitive workflows across areas such as reconciliations, reporting, validation, close activities, and operational tracking.

Data Processing & Logic Design:

• Develop data models, query logic, input/output structures, and exception‑handing routines using Excel, Access, and SQL.
• Optimize existing tools by improving logic design, reducing processing time, strengthening validation layers, and enhancing auditability.

Workflow Automation & Systems Enablement:

• Build and enhance workflow‑based solutions using Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps to reduce manual handoffs, improve process standardization,
• Support stronger controls and transparency across finance operations.

Technical Documentation & Change Control:

Create and maintain high‑quality technical documentation including solution design notes, process logic, code commenting, SOPs, testing evidence, version histories, and user guidance to ensure sustainable ownership and supportability.

Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement:

• Troubleshoot defects, resolve production issues, support enhancement requests
• Proactively identify opportunities to refactor or upgrade existing automations.
• Contribute to improving development standards, documentation quality, and reusability of automation components.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Technical & Functional Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas, structured models, large-volume data handling, and spreadsheet-based solution design.
• Strong hands‑on expertise in Macro/VBA automation coding, including development of modular, maintainable, and well‑documented solutions.
• Strong experience with MS Access and SQL for data storage, query development, data transformation, and reporting support.
• Hands‑on experience in workflow automation tools such as Power Automate, FloQast, and Power Apps.
• Strong technical ability to convert business requirements into structured, reliable, and supportable automation solutions.
• Good understanding of process controls, exception handling, validation design, and documentation practices in an operations environment.
• Experience developing automation solutions in Finance operations environments is preferred.
• Python‑based automation, Tableau/Power BI, and ERP scripting experience are not a must but good to have.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in automation development is required (VBA/Excel‑based engineering, Power Automate, Power Apps), Good to have (SQL & Tableau)
• Experience in developing automations for Finance operations is preferred.
• Experience in a tech or e‑commerce environment is an advantage.
• Professional certifications or training in automation, analytics, systems development, or process improvement are a plus.
