Overview

Senior Accounting Assistant – World Bank Group. Job #: req34442. Location: Manila, Philippines. Term: 3 years. Grade: GD. Recruitment Type: Local Recruitment. Required language: English. Closing Date: 10/10/2025 (11:59 pm UTC).

The World Bank Group is a global partnership of five institutions focused on reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development. The World Bank Finance & Accounting (WFA) Vice Presidency oversees financial reporting and internal controls for IBRD, IDA, and the Trust Fund/Partnership portfolio, administering disbursements for Bank lending and supporting corporate expenses.

WFA is organized into three departments: (1) Corporate Accounting and Reporting, (2) Trust Funds and Loans, and (3) Financial Controls. WFA Financial Operations (WFAFO) is a division responsible for recording and reporting the World Bank Group’s administrative expenses and fixed assets, with a combined financial statement value of nearly $4.0B. This includes delivering core accounting services, maintaining internal controls, and providing leadership on complex accounting issues related to administrative expenses and functions: (i) Travel Accounting, Accounts Payable, Fixed Asset and Lease Accounting, Quality Assurance and Country Office Accounting (WFATA); (ii) Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Tax Allowance Administration; (iii) Helpdesk Operations (WFAAN). WFAGP processes vendor payments for HQ units and 120+ country offices and is located in Chennai, reporting to WFATA.

Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor all General Ledger accounts and prepare periodic reconciliations; follow up with clients and other units on aged and critical items.
  • Prepare monthly Trial Balance; analyze and explain variances and aged items.
  • Provide inputs to Management Reporting and Analysis.
  • Compile and monitor KPIs and metrics monthly with benchmark data; explain significant variances.
  • Liaise with the Data Analytics team to obtain monthly MIS reports and explain major variances.
  • Assist in developing data analytics and trends to support adhoc reporting needs; prepare reports as needed.
  • Implement relevant accounting policies and KPIs, with monthly benchmark data and variance explanations.
  • Execute General Ledger accounting entries and conduct Chart of Account maintenance.
  • Participate in user testing (UAT) and implementation of new systems, applications, tools, and reports to enhance efficiency and standardization.
  • Process payments to staff and vendors within service standards and contractual terms, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Apply US GAAP accrual accounting principles as required.
  • Respond to queries from vendors and units related to payments; maintain client rapport and provide reliable service.

What you will bring

Education

  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA or an equivalent designation).
  • Fresh graduates welcome; post-qualification experience is an added advantage.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Taxation) is a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of accounting principles, accounting policies, and ICFR requirements.
  • Experience with GL posting, bank reconciliations, and basic accounting reports.
  • Experience with SAP FI is required; Power BI and Tableau are desirable. Exposure to PeopleSoft is a plus.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in preparing aging analyses and trial balance reporting; experience resolving issues with stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly; experience with integrated, automated accounting systems of comparable complexity to SAP.
