Job description

If you are an ambitious, experienced accountant who wants full ownership of files — not just task execution — this role is for you.

At Mogul CPA, Senior Accountants are responsible for delivering clean, accurate financials for complex real estate portfolios — consistently, and without excuses. This is not a support role. This is not a bookkeeping role. This role is for accountants who can take responsibility for messy books, bring them to a clean and stable state, and maintain high-quality financials month after month.

You will support real estate portfolios across Canada by designing and implementing recurring accounting work and structured cleanup tasks — by leveraging Junior Accountants and overseen by the Director of Accounting. You’ll gain exposure to larger and important Canadian real estate finance and tax. This role requires in-depth knowledge of full-cycle accounting, high quality client communication, and high-level problem-solving — all within a culture built on kindness, structure, and professional growth.

This role rewards ownership, clarity, and reliability. If you perform well, you will earn more responsibility. If you don’t, you will receive direct feedback quickly.

About Mogul CPA

Mogul CPA is a fast-growing Canadian accounting firm specializing in real estate investors, property managers, and developers. We deliver full-service accounting, tax, and finance operations for complex, multi-entity portfolios.

At Mogul CPA

At Mogul CPA, we don’t just record numbers; we help real estate investors and property managers create financial clarity. Our clients manage portfolios worth over $100M, and we’re expanding our offshore team to support their growth.

The Role
The Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is an ownership role. You are responsible of clean, accurate financials for assigned clients portfolios.

You:

  • Own the file and related deadlines
  • Ensure your expectations are clear
  • Own client communication
  • Delegate tasks to Junior Accountants
  • Review all work before it reaches the client
  • Ensure continuity from month to month
  • Wait for step-by-step instructions
  • Rely on others to catch your mistakes
Why This Role Matters for You

This is not just another accounting role — it is a step into true ownership.

You will:
  • Own full-cycle accounting for real estate portfolios
  • Learn to manage Canadian Tax compliance from Canadian CPAs
  • Lead cleanup and catch-up engagements
  • Manage and develop junior accountants
  • Work directly with experienced CPAs and leadership
  • Build systems and processes that improve over time
  • You’ll be part of a firm that reviews performance and pay regularly — because growth is built into our model.
You will be measured on outcomes — not effort.
Responsibilities
1. Client File Ownership

You will own full-cycle accounting for assigned portfolios, including:

  • Bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Accounts payable and receivable oversight
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Month-end close and financial statement preparation
  • Review process implementation
  • Documentation standards

All financials must be accurate, complete, and delivered on time.

You will lead cleanup work once recurring processes are defined, including:

  • Clearing historical balances
  • Resolving unreconciled accounts
  • Stabilizing files into a clean monthly close process

You are expected to follow proper sequencing:

You do not guess. You work systematically.

You will support delivery by working with Junior Accountants, including:

  • Assigning tasks clearly
  • Reviewing work for accuracy
  • Ensuring tasks are completed correctly and on time

You are responsible for output quality — not just your own work.

4. Communication & Ownership

You are expected to:

  • Communicate clearly with clients and internal team
  • Raise issues early and propose solutions
  • Update task status accurately in Karbon
  • Maintain full visibility on your files

Silence, guessing, or delayed communication is not acceptable.

Results (What Success Looks Like)
  • Files are clean and stay clean
  • Month-end closes are consistently on time
  • Minimal review notes from management
  • Juniors produce higher-quality work over time
  • Clients trust your reporting and communication
