Job summary

Werfenlife SA. is seeking a skilled Laboratory Scientist in the Romblon area to perform advanced laboratory procedures and research tasks. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences with at least four years of relevant experience in the in vitro diagnostic field. Proficiency in laboratory techniques and software tools such as Excel and SAP is essential.

The role will involve collaboration with colleagues in R&D, and the ideal candidate must be fluent in Spanish or Catalan, alongside advanced English. The position offers a dynamic work environment encouraging continuous learning.

Qualifications

Overview

Performs a broad range of laboratory work requiring application of professional judgment in the selection of specialized methods and techniques, and their application to specific tasks. Provides project updates. Performs duties in research and development including the ability to perform specialized lab techniques and good laboratory documentation practices.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs an expanded range of laboratory procedures and experiments
  • Periodically communicates problems, and progress to supervisor
  • Occasionally communicates status updates and results across the organization
  • Presents results to senior/other research staff
  • Selects appropriate experimental and analytical methods and define protocols
  • Schedules own and team tasks and activities in accordance with assignments and priorities
  • Detects deviations in results and potential problems, recommends modification in protocols or standard methodology to define the causes of deviations and overcome problems
  • Under the supervision and approval of his/her supervisor, writes specialized laboratory procedures and reviews existing Procedures and Methods
  • Compiles and interprets experimental data, performs calculations and prepares graphs to present and discuss them to his/her supervisor
  • Writes research papers, reports, reviews, and technical summaries
  • Review electronic or paper laboratory notebook making sure that all data is accurately recorded in accordance with guidelines and procedures
  • Must be capable of performing all duties required of a Scientist I

Internal Networking

To be determined based on department needs, to include interactions such as:

  • Mainly with R&D, Quality and Operations colleagues.
Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position

  • Required: Bachelor's degree (Diplomatura) in biological or related sciences.
  • Valuable: Any additional degree higher than that required in the previous section.
  • Years of experience
    • Four (4) years previous scientific/in vitro diagnostic industry experience required.
  • Min knowledge
    • Laboratory experience.
    • Basic knowledge of biological and chemical laboratory procedures. Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
    • Knowledge of basic software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAP preferred.
    • Language: Fluency in Spanish or Catalan. Advanced knowledge of English (reading, speaking and writing).

  • Industrial experience in Biotechnology Process Development will be highly valued.
  • The ability to analyze and interpret protein structures and apply this knowledge to the rational design of novel biomaterials would be desirable.
  • Ability to design and clone DNA constructs for the expression of biomaterials in heterologous systems.
  • Experience in cell transformation/transfection and clone screening in mammalian cells and bacteria.
  • Experience in the maintenance and monitoring of cell growth under different conditions: static and suspension, batch, fed-batch, perfusion.
  • Experience in bioprocesses development to produce biomaterials with different scales and platforms, from flask to bioreactor.
  • Experience in filtration and chromatographic techniques for protein purification.
  • Experience in Protein Buffer Formulation and Optimization.
  • Experience in Physicochemical Characterization of Proteins (HPLC & BLI is a plus)
  • Knowledge in In Vitro Diagnostic assays will be considered.

Travel Requirements

Sporadic travel or short-term assignment to an external lab may be required
