The Safety and Pollution Control Officer is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and regulatory compliance by managing safety programs, conducting inspections, and leading incident response. On the other hand, it also oversees the Wastewater Treatment Facility to ensure adherence to environmental laws and proper operation of pollution control systems.
Scope and Responsibilities:
· Reports to the HR Supervisor and Warehouse Manager and supervises Maintenance Personnel.
· Plans, implements, and monitors workplace health and safety programs.
· Conducts daily site inspections and enforces proper use of PPE (e.g., safety shoes, helmets, goggles).
· Conducts weekly toolbox safety meetings in collaboration with supervisors.
· Investigates accidents, near misses, and incidents; recommends preventive measures.
· Maintains first aid facilities and monitors fire safety measures.
· Coordinates with top management and assists during government safety inspections.
· Issues work stoppage orders when necessary due to safety concerns.
· Serves as secretary to the Health and Safety Committee.
· Recommends and evaluates proper PPE for all work areas.
· Acts as the company’s key safety advisor and promotes hazard elimination and safe practices.
· Upholds confidentiality and performs other safety-related tasks as assigned.
· Oversees the Wastewater Treatment Facility
· Ensures compliance with environmental laws: PD 1586, RA 6969, RA 8749, RA 9003, RA 9275, and related IRRs.
· Handles environmental permitting, registration, and reporting requirements.
· Manages the proper operation and maintenance of pollution control systems (wastewater, air pollution, hazardous waste, solid waste, and monitoring equipment).
· Monitors chemical usage, hazardous waste transport, and solid waste generation.
· Prepares and submits required reports (CMRs, SMRs, incident reports, etc.) to DENR and other regulatory bodies.
· Investigates environmental incidents and recommends corrective actions.
· Represents the company in hearings, inspections, and regulatory meetings.
· Coordinates environmental programs and awareness campaigns internally.
· Jointly liable with the Managing Head for any environmental compliance violations.
