Job Description

A clothing fitter is indeed the person who adjusts, measures, and fits garments to a person's body. However, their exact duties depend on where they work.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Atleast SHS Graduate or College Level


• With mandatory requirements: SSS, PAGIBIG, PHILHEALTH, TIN, NB


• At least fully vaccinated


• Willing to start ASA

If they work in a boutique or tailoring shop, their primary job is directly assisting customers.

• Taking Measurements: Using measuring tapes to find exact sizing.


• Recommending Sizes: Helping customers find the best-fitting ready-to-wear garments.


• Pinning and Marking: Pinning clothes to show exactly where alterations are needed (like hemming pants or taking in a waist).

If they work in fashion manufacturing or design, they are responsible for ensuring clothing fits exactly according to a brand’s size standards before it goes to mass production.

• Conducting Fit Sessions: Placing garments on mannequins or live \"fit models\" to evaluate comfort and appearance.


• Identifying Issues: Catching problems like tightness, twisting, or drag lines.


• Providing Feedback: Documenting adjustments and working with pattern makers to correct the templates.

Note: In the fashion world, the person physically wearing the clothes while the fitter and designer make adjustments is called the Fit Model.

Tailor or Alterationist

While some fitters do the pinning, a tailor is the person who permanently sews and alters the garment.

• Letting Out / Taking In: Physically using sewing machines, needles, and thread to permanently change the garment's structure.

Understanding these roles helps clarify exactly who is doing what to your clothing. Fitters determine the proper sizing and pin the adjustments, while fit models showcase how the clothing wears, and tailors/seamstresses do the sewing
