Job summary

BizForce is seeking a Medical Coder - Internal/Family Medicine to accurately review, abstract, code, and audit physician documentation for primary care services. You will ensure diagnoses, procedures, and services are coded in line with CMS guidelines and payer requirements.

You will collaborate with providers, billing teams, and revenue cycle management to support accurate reimbursement, minimize coding errors and denials, and improve overall revenue cycle performance while maintaining HIPAA

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years of professional medical coding experience.
• At least 1 year of primary care coding experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier assignment.
• Thorough understanding of E/M coding and documentation requirements.
• Familiarity with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
• HIPAA and healthcare compliance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Review and accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers for Internal and Family Medicine services.
• Analyze physician and provider documentation to ensure complete, accurate coding.
• Apply current Evaluation and Management (E/M) guidelines.
• Ensure diagnosis codes support services and medical necessity.
• Review encounters for accurate charge capture and identify missed or incorrect coding.
• Conduct coding and documentation audits and identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide coding guidance and education to clinicians and staff.
• Review edits, denials, and reimbursement trends; recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with coding-related appeals and denial resolution.
• Maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
• Stay current with CMS guidelines and payer requirements.
• Collaborate with revenue cycle, billing, and clinical teams.
