Job summary

ClientEarth is seeking a qualified lawyer to contribute to REM and FOLU programmes, focusing on energy transition and biodiversity law in Southeast Asia. This remote position supports Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and the broader region, with potential for extension based on performance and funding.

You will conduct legal research, engage diverse stakeholders, and help advance low-carbon strategies and biodiversity conservation across the region.

Qualifications

• Fluent English (CEFR C2)
• Fluent Bahasa Indonesia or Filipino (CEFR C2)
• Law degree or equivalent
• Experience in energy law, policy, and regulation
• Experience in biodiversity conservation law, policy, and regulation
• Knowledge of the energy transition and nature conservation intersection
• Ability to engage external stakeholders and represent ClientEarth confidently

Responsibilities

• Strategy Development: work with line manager to set region priorities and align with regional/global strategies.
• Legal Research and Analysis: study legal/regulatory frameworks governing energy transition and biodiversity conservation in the region.
• Stakeholder Engagement: build and maintain relationships with government, industry, civil society, and donors across Japan and SE Asia
