Job summary

Sezzle is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own authentication and authorization at scale. You will shape the technical vision, design gateway and identity services, and lead migrations with zero downtime.

In this remote role, you’ll collaborate with Product, Security, and Compliance, mentor teammates, and drive security-conscious, scalable fintech-grade platforms using Golang, AWS, and modern distributed patterns.

Qualifications

12+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend focus.
Deep, hands-on expertise in authentication and authorization systems: OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT.
Experience designing, building, or operating an API gateway or auth proxy at scale.
Proficiency in Golang and RESTful APIs.
Experience with SQL-based RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and performance tuning.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized microservices.

Responsibilities

Own the technical vision and roadmap for Sezzle’s authentication and authorization platform, including API gateway and identity services.
Architect, design, and build scalable, highly-available auth services and gateway components in Golang, AWS, and RDS.
Design and lead phased, zero-downtime migrations of auth traffic with rollback mechanisms.
Establish authentication/authorization standards across the platform (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS, RBAC/ABAC).
Drive consistency and scalability across a distributed microservices architecture.
